MTV Earlier this week, Robert Pattinson fans rejoiced at the news that their "Twilight" hunk will continue to appear on the big screen after "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" is released in 2012. Pattinson's first post-"Twilight" movie will be "Cosmopolis," an adaptation of the novel by Don DeLillo, to be directed by David Cronenberg.
Pattinson will play "financial wunderkind" Eric Packer, who risks his entire fortune to bet against Japan's yen on a tumultuous day. The character's chancy move puts him in mortal danger. The flick is said to be "a drama that is a study of capitalism in a slightly futuristic metropolis."
While fans are happy about Pattinson's new project, the role initially went out to Colin Farrell. MTV News caught up with Farrell recently while he promoted his upcoming drama "The Way Back," a film set during World War II about a group of prisoners who escape the Siberian Gulag and must walk over 4,000 miles to freedom. Farrell said he didn't end up doing "Cosmopolis" due to timing and scheduling issues "for everyone involved."
"Myself and David [Cronenberg], we had good conversations between he and I," Farrell said. "I would love to work with him at some stage, I really would. I really wanted to do that [film]."
And what does he think of Pattinson replacing him?
"It's a wonderful script. I wish him all the luck in the world with it," he said.

Nice!
This will be a really great opportunity for Mr. Pattinson and I wish him all the best.
Awww..thank you, Mr. Farrell.
I'm curious about this movie, though. I hope there will be another news about this one.
Sounds cool.
Now i would like to here some news about Kristen's films after BD. She seems to go for more independent films than Rob though. Here's don't get as much promotion.
I read more information over at robsessed about what it's all about and let me tell ya I'm gonna die of a heart attack from the hotness our boy will probably show us. Reminds me of fifty. I might have to get this book to read too.
I wonder how long to shoot will take.
How sweet of Colin! I think he's a very talented actor who I always enjoy onscreen. Bad timing for him brought Rob a great opportunity.
I want to see "The Way Back" because I heart Jim Sturgess big time. I would love to see him work with Kristen in the near future!
@Angela I updated the initial 'Rob stars in Cosmopolis' post - lots of new details in there. The link is in this post, too.
@Anon 6.11 I flove Jim Sturgess, too. I'm happy he has lots of films in line this year. He is a very talented actor as well, multi-faceted like our Rob. I would love for him to make a movie with Rob and/or Kristen too in the future.
Man, I gotta get this book & start reading now! I'm so happy for Rob; the movie sounds like it's gonna be exciting & thrilling to watch...I saw your new deets too S, awesome...can't wait to see Rob & his gun,lol...Happy Wknd All!!
@Angela..made me think of fifty too. I always wondered; if MOTU was made into a movie (sans some of the mature parts of course) it would be a really captivating part for Rob to play. I think Cosmopolis will be a good runner up to that role. Rob is definitely showing his mutifaceted talent.
Happy weekend to you S and to the rest of the Robstenation fandom.
Nice of Colin. I'm Irish and proud that we're from the same country =) I get really excited when I hear about new Rob projects because I'm really anxious to see him do different roles that will give him more acting range. Also would love people to see he's a good actor. Can't wait to read the book.
@Anon 10.12 I like Colin, too. Hollywood got the best of him when he was younger but I'm glad he turned his life around. And he's also very talented.
Eric Packer...for some reason I just can't get around that name. What name are we going to call him in this movie?
@Jane Good point! lol Uhmm Robric? Idk haha.
Haha S, I like Robric too! I was thinking @first Robpack, BUT prolly too cheesy-sounding,lol,heehee. Everytime I look @him, I just always think even when he walks or whatever he's "packin' heat", so, hence that cheesy name, lol. I can't wait to see him carrying His Gun, yowza! tanx S!
I think Colin has got Rob beat on the eyebrows. Colin's brows are huge.
