I have read this write up days ago and I thought I already posted it. Anyhoo, here it is... great read.
By Maggie Lumpcik of OMG Yahoo Kristen Stewart is best known for her role as Bella Swan in the "Twilight" series, but she has played other roles. In fact, she has played other roles extremely well and deserves recognition. Most notably, her role as Joan Jett in "The Runaways." As Joan Jett, Kristen Stewart gives an amazing performance.
The movie and Kristen Stewart's portrayal of Jett, however, were overlooked and almost completely forgotten this awards season. Other than at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, her name and role were never even mentioned in consideration.
Stewart received positive critical reviews of her work in "The Runaways." Kirk Honeycut in the Film Journal International called Kristen's performance "the driving force." Roger Ebert said of Stewart (and co-star Dakota Fanning,) that the pair "bring more to their characters than the script provides." A.O. Scott of the New York Times said of Kristen's role, "Ms. Stewart, watchful and unassuming, gives the movie its spine and soul."
MORE!
Kristen Stewart's commitment to Joan Jett is evident throughout the movie. Her walk, attitude, and voice all perfectly match the famous rock star. Stewart sings during the movie, and her voice blends seamlessly with The Runaways' real music.
Often given negative feedback for her role and acting ability as Bella Swan in the Twilight series, Stewart demonstrates her talent in "The Runaways." Before "The Runaways" premiered, many doubted Kristen's ability to handle the tough role of Joan Jett. Not only did Kristen Stewart prove she could handle the difficult role of playing a real person, she nailed it.
"The Runaways" failed to make a strong showing at the box office, which may have contributed to its lack of recognition. The R rating could have kept Stewart's younger fans away, and others may not have been able to see her as anyone other than Bella Swan. Whatever the reason, a lot of people missed out on a great film and an award-quality performance by Kristen Stewart.
Hopefully, Kristen Stewart will provide many more award-quality performances in her career. She is an extremely talented actress. Her strong role as Joan Jett should have received more recognition and landed Stewart many award nominations.
Thankfully, MTV did step up and at least acknowledge "The Runaways," even if the nomination was for an insignificant part of the movie. Kristen Stewart and co-star Dakota Fanning received a "Best Kiss" nomination, but unfortunately Kristen Stewart lost to herself and her Twilight saga co-star, Robert Pattinson. At least she still won!

Yes!kristen nailed it and she should get award for her hardworking and dedication.kristen is so talented and i will support all the movies that shes in.love her!;-)
You posted something similiar because I remember commenting on it Buddy, but I guess it wasn't the same article. And I comment again....she so didn't get enough recognition for this film. People who haven't seen it really missed out, I didn't agree with what some said about it being poorly shot, etc. and I think Kristen and Dakota did amazing jobs taking on the roles of real people. Kristen certainly made me feel like I was watching and listening to a younger version of JJ. And I appreciated the fact that I got to become familiar with the music of the Runaways. :)
I totally feel that Kristen was sadly overlooked this awards season for her role as joan jett!! It wasn't released in many cities at all but I think it did pretty well in those it was showing. She owned that role and made the movie so interesting to watch. Definitely should have been on one of those best actress lists for sure! She rocks...literally and figuratively. BTW, I think there are a fair share of ardent kstew fans that are over 17...me included!!
Love this Write-up! It just pains me so much that TR didn't get the enormous recognition it deserved. K worked her heart out for this & I for one will always believe it should have been critcally acclaimed. She totally embodied JJ...it's like double vision. As one of her fans, this is my favorite movie of hers. I LOVE YOU KRISTEN! Thankyou S for this!
The Runaways is amazing movie but the distribution is sucks!! I agree all the comments above...Kristen deserved the best and i am so proud of her!!! she's amazing...I love u Kristen*
Nice post S,

From what I've read about award nominations, those who get them are those who campaign for them. Since The Runaways was barely promoted or distributed, it goes in hand that they also didn't bother to promote their stars performances. None of which makes any sense for this film. I mean, why even bother? Did they just make it for their personal collection? An iconic band, instantly recognizable, the first of its kind, Joan F. Jett.... I just don't get why they didn't do a wide release and promote this movie. It would have been a smash hit with no teenagers involved. The R rating didn't matter. It's not a teen movie. It's a boomer movie and there are more boomers out there than teens currently. I had to buy the DVD to see the movie. Of course, I would have bought it anyway but I feel robbed of seeing it on the big screen, just as I agree and feel that Kristen was robbed of well-deserved nominations for her amazing portrayal of Joan Jett. The article got it right. Kristen nailed it. I can't think of any other actress who could have even come close.
Great reviews. I wish Kristen would get the accolades that she deserves. The fact that Kristen pulls off playing Bella & Joan Jett, two extremely different characters is a great accomplishment in itself. I wish people would STFU about her playing Bella, as if that's such a horrible character for her to play. She is a great Bella.
Yes, I totally agree with this article.
@Khou I agree that Kristen gets unfairly criticized for her role as Bella. She plays the character perfectly and actually adds a strength to what was written in the book. I think people pick on it because it gets so much hype. But sometimes hype is well-deserved. Sometimes things get so much hype because they really are just that great and unique.
