Rob on Twilight Finale "It's the end of an era" + Bill Condon talks BD

Rob on Twilight finale: "It's the end of an era"
LA Times - Nicole SperlingPublic speaking has never been Robert Pattinson’s favorite part of his job. But presenting the Golden Globe to director Susanne Bier for her drama “In a Better World” Sunday night proved to be a welcome respite for the actor, who’s knee deep in the middle of filming “Breaking Dawn,” the final installment of the “Twilight” saga, which will be split into two parts.

“It’s been really hard shooting both films at the same time,” admitted the 24-year-old star, moments before he had run backstage to present his award with “Tron” star Olivia Wilde. “But it’s the end of an era.”

That era certainly will be one that Summit Entertainment, the films’ distributor, not to mention the franchise’s devoted fans, will be sorry to see go. Starting with 2008’s “Twilight,” the fantasy romance that first saw Pattinson’s handsome, brooding vampire encounter his mortal love, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), the movie series has taken in roughly $1.8 billion at the worldwide box office, as audiences lined up to see Swan wrestle with her feelings for her immortal boyfriend and her best friend, Jacob (Taylor Lautner), a werewolf, over the course of the next two films, 2009's "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" and 2010's "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse."

At the start of the first part of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn,” Bella consents to Edward’s marriage proposal — Edward’s condition if he is to grant Bella’s request that he transform her into a vampire — and the young couple are wed before heading to a remote island getaway for a honeymoon.

Speaking by phone this month, director Bill Condon, who’s helming both installments of the finale, said he has been thrilled with what he’s seen from his leads. “All the characters are moving [in this chapter]," he said. "It’s really about the passage from adolescence to adulthood, and they all seem energized by that. It’s the stuff they are all connecting to in their lives.”

As for Pattinson specifically, Condon added, “Now he’s dealing with a character who’s like him. The final movie allows us to step behind the curtain of what it’s like to be a vampire. It doesn’t seem that exotic anymore; It’s trying to be more real.”

The director, though, was reticent to share any details of the production, which is filming in both New Orleans and Vancouver, Canada, with a jaunt to an island off the coast of Brazil — a location that might in the end prove the most memorable to Condon, because the entire cast and crew needed for the honeymoon scene was stranded after a long day of filming.

“It was incredible. We got caught in the middle of this huge rainstorm — I’ll remember it forever,” Condon said. “Eighty people sleeping on the floor of the set. We couldn't leave.” - Nicole Sperling.

'End of an era' , very reminiscent of when my fave TV show 'Friends' ended. Gah. That will be a very sad day for the fandom - but I can't help to feel excited for the future of both Rob and Kristen... and yes, Taylor too after the Saga.

That camping out on the floor with your fellow cast, and crew sounds neat.
Just a few of those moments during filming that will create a memory. :)
I bet they mention that in other interviews/promos.

Good things did happen to Rob cause of Twilight!
-A job (he had even said that. that he didn't really have a job at the time. not getting many roles.)
-A pretty woman with awesome talent, and amazing cooking.
-Lots of new friends (cast/crew) that are awesome.
AND so much more.

Bittersweet! I look forward to the movies, but the anticipation has been half the fun. It will be sad to see it all come to an end. These are books & movies that will live on forever.

I don't want to go there, not yet good things are yet to come.
As for the blog I want to see here Papa Pattinson holding Robsten's first born taking it to school and I won't compromise for less.

If we could dream...Stephenie Meyer could write another book, the Taylor and Renesmee life...another adventure...We could see Robert and Kristen gathered in some romantic or epic movie...Id' like to see Kristen in long dresses, in some shakespearian novel, Arthur King legend...Well, we can dream, we can hope...This Twilight saga has opened a door on eternal youth and unlimited love. I remember Kristen saying during the Twilight commentary on the DVD that she was very emotional during the prom scene where her and Robert are dancing. I believe that it was because it was the end of filming so it was hard for her to let go of it until the next movie. Anyway, I can only imagine how hard this will be for her when BD is complete. She's so used to working with Rob and being able to be with him during the Twilight series. I have NO doubt though that he will reassure her and that it may even move them towards something more "permanent" as a couple. Boy I sure do hate to see it all end too. It truly is the "end of an era" as Rob put it.

Funny you should mention Friends, S. That is my favorite show--have all the DVDS of all the seasons. In the last episode, Jennifer Aniston was on the verge of tears in almost all the scenes. So touching. It got me to thinking that I hope Twilight shows some of the inevitable tears at the end of filming on the DVD extras of BD. I know it seems a little personal and voyeristic, but I think it would be so cathartic if the fans could cry along with the stars because it's an end of an era for us too. I thought of this too when the HP actors were talking about all the tears shed and I couldn't help but thinking I hope they show that. I remember when I was a kid and my favorite show, Family Ties (showing my age, I know), ended and they showed the farewells and curtain calls and Michael J Fox could not stop crying. I cried along with him and it was so great to have that outlet because I was sad too.

Ha Ha...Misty we must be almost the same age! It will be a sad and tearful day(s) for the crew and actors(I'm sure Summit will include it like the BTS in New Moon when everyone was sad about ending in Vancouver)but it also will be a new chapter for everyone. I think although K&R LOVE Twilight..it is exhausting and I'm sure they are ready for the era to end after BD (remember Rob's reaction when Pierce mentioned that they might write more books after BD).

I am looking forward to R&K outside of Twilight and all their new projects! Cosmopolis is pretty intense and I'm reading it more closely than I expected.
