yaayy!! OSCAR BUZZ FTW!!! i hope that in a year from now today we get to hear the name Robert Pattinson in the Oscars Best Actor category for WFE! i will be the happiest girl that day!! && due to the fact that Oscar buzz has started NOW i don't doubt its a big possibility!! even for Cosmopolis or Bel Ami but i hope Rob gets the recognition he deserves :)
--Nina :D
oscar oscar oscar...how great would that be?!
i would be so proud and happy for him !!!! and i know one girl who would be happy too!!
<3 hugs everyone
Nina,ITA! Also, I am hoping Kristen will be recognized for her work in OTR, and I think she will be oscar worthy in BD as well. From all we are hearing she is going to be awesome as Vamp Bella! Wouldn't it be awesome if both of them were at least nominated!
EEK!! I can't wait!! As excited as I am to see BD Part 1..I am really execited to see WFE and its great that its getting such buzz. I think this role will really surprise critics that Rob is not JUST Edward Cullen. YAY!!
I know what you mean, Canadian girl. I am so excited for WFE. The book was really good. Rob ca ntotally bring the complicated Jacob to life. I love the red hair, too. I'm glad they colored it. It plays into part of the story... and he looks REALLY good too.
I love love LOVE that picture from WFE... because when I look at it I see Rob and Tai, not Jacob and Rose :
My husband grumbles about Rob sometimes...I say "you just wait...someday he will get an oscar" he noticed this blog site and I said "see it's about Kristen and Robert and their love"....I still don't think he gets it..oh well...in about 30 years from now and numerous critically acclaimed films and oscars between them.. He might get it then (R&K will be 54 and 50)!!!
Can't wait for WFE,BA,OTR,&BD1!
While I totally agree that I hope Rob gets an Oscar nod for WFE, I'm not crossing anything yet. WFE comes out very early in the Oscar year and this morning's Oscar snubs don't give me a lot of confidence: No Ryan Gosling, Andrew Garfield or Chrisopher Nolan(for directing)?!!!! Unless Rob or Kristen present, can't find a reason for me to watch this year.
Beside you, I'll still be crazy about them, even though I'll be 79! Oh, how depressing! I'm with you about the oscar...they will both have one, or more over the mantle of their home, where their children & grandchildren can admire them...GranRob & GranKris! I love them growing old together! Fingers crossed!!!!
WFE has always been considered Oscar bait because of the high quality of the script written by the great Richard LaGravanese. Then you toss in that remarkable cast; Waltz, Witherspoon, Holbrook and taking a chance on Rob and handing him the lead AND the amazing production team assembled and yeah, if this lives up to it's potential, it's got Oscar written all over it. The drawback is that it's being released earlier in the year and those films tend to be overlooked during the next award season. However, if the film turns out to be one of the better reviewed of the year, the studio will mount an Oscar campaign in the trades (Variety and Hollywood Reporter) and send screeners out to Academy members to "remind" them and more than likely, it will be remembered. Much like a terrific film that came out several months ago, was critically acclaimed and thought to be a shoo in for Oscar nominations. But it had poor box office and the heat around it died with all the year end releases. A lot of pundits thought it would be overlooked. It wasn't. The picture is called, "The Kids Are Allright" and was just nominated for Best Picture and acting nominations for Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo. So if WFE is good, it will be remembered a year from now. But having read the script, I must tell you that the role of the film is not Jacob. It's August. They've combined his character with Uncle Al and it's the strongest role in the story. And when you consider the extrodinary Christoph Waltz (already an Oscar winner) playing him, if anyone's gonna pull down a nomination, it will be him. But even if Rob were not nominated, yet the film pulled down other nominations in major catagories, this would be FANTASTIC for Rob. Because of Twilight, he's got an uphill climb in trying to regain some of his credibility as an actor (and he's making some wonderful choices) and for him to star in a film that could end up a Best Picture nominee? Oh hell yeah.
So don't hold your breath in Rob pulling down any nominations any time soon (he's gonna have to earn that). Just hope that the films he's in are good enough to content because it will show that he's picking good material and by and by, THE role will come along and then he'll get his recognition. There have been some great actors who have never been nominated for Oscars; Donald Sutherland, Martin Sheen, Gary Oldman, Ewan MacGregor, Jennifer Jason Leigh (the best actress of her generation). For a true actor, the reward isn't the award. It's the work.
@Nikola6 Love your early assessment about WFE's chances for the Academy next year. Yep, the early release is one thing going against the film and I have to agree with all the things you mentioned most esp. about Waltz. The strong composite of his character (August/Uncle Al) just made the August character jump off the script, uhmm most def in the film, too. All these taken into consideration I still think Rob is heading in the right direction with films being put up by major studios but not overly commercial and having experienced/seasoned co-actors isnt bad at all. And I don't think Rob is 'planning' for an Oscar like other actors, esp this early in his career. Actually, I don't see R and K that way, its more important for them that they believe in the project, the role and everything will just follow. Let destiny happen. :)
@Nikola6: I love reading comments from people who obviously understand the workings of the industry, because I totally do not! Love your insight. And I feel, as awesome as it would be for Rob to win an Oscar early on, so all of us who are his fans could smirk at the disbelievers and say "See, we told you he was good"....even though that would be awesome, I think winning an Oscar will have more meaning for him when he's a bit older and has even more world and work experience behind him. That's just my opinion, of course.
I agree Nikola6, Sharilee,Misty and S... I wrote 30 years from now b/c I too believe R&K pick films to grow as actors and hone their craft. They are both talented and passionate and in time this will earn them oscars(not that they are seeking them) based on the merit of their work(that they enjoy for the sake of the work).
Great for R&K to step gingerly away from the Twilight bubble (believe me I love Twilight too..but it's never going to get critical praise) into meatier roles with challenging material/directors/and cast as we have seen them do throughout the Twilight series filming.
