OMG! I'm so happy. Squeeee. Kristen rules! No real interview, yeah! No soul-baring Wintour exclusives but still made COVER!

Update!  According DrownInIt "There is an interview, but it's brief. Was done in Baton Rouge shortly after they got there. Some new quotes. She sounds great!"

Here's the transcript/article. Many thanks to KStewartBR

Kristen Stewart's body can tell a million stories. Kinetic, she jiggles, feints, and darts as she talks, hanging back, looking off to the side, signaling resistance, a combinative intelligence. "The word I always use for her is vulpine." says Jack Scott, who recently directed her in Welcome to the Rileys, in which she plays a teenage runaway and lap dancer. "Foxlike. She's got that way of moving and being that you often find in her performances, a sort of wiliness."

In other words, Stewart projects the kind of wary, rebellious edge that is so much more typical of her age group - she is 20 - than gleeful high spirits, which is problably one reason she is head and shoulders above her peers in Hollywood's power pyramid, and a director's darling. Scott heard about her from his friend Sean Penn after Penn cast her as the unmoored daughter of hippie parents in the memorable Into the Wild. "Sean said, 'You've gotta see this kid,' Scott recalls. "She's just so alive!" For Bill Condon, currently ensconced in a year's worth of filming for Breaking Dawn, the two-part finale of the mighty Twilight Saga, "Kristen was the top of my list of reasons to do this movie."\

MORE AFTER THE CUT

On a fall weekend in a quiet, suburban part of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the town where the Breaking Dawn set is located (with much secrecy and heavy confidentialy agreements), Stewart, a slyph in tomboyish jeans and a lumberjack shirt, is moving around the kitchen of a friend's house, cracking her knuckles as she talks. She gets nervous dealing with the media - TV interviews in particular, she says, make her squirm - and she is sometimes accused of being downbeat and defensive in her public appearances, not least because she rarely smiles. She nurses some bad-girl career. "I choose things that are so overly ambitious, and if I can't do stuff like that, I don't want to be doing this.", she says. Scratch the surface, however, and the attitude seems more about the passion and perfectionism she feels about her work and the opposite. "A compulsion absolutely fills you", she says of finding a good part, and admits that she sometimes has difficulty lettin go.
Today she is stoked from having just returned from shooting On the Road with Walter Salles, the masterly Brazilian director of The Motorcycle Diaries and Central Station. She plays a character based on Neal Cassady's wirst wife, LuAnne Henderson, opposite Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley. It was an intense improvisatory experience that left her "crying my head off," she says. "I didn't want to leave." Installing herself in Baton Rouge for the foreseeable future was "like going back to school... Twilight is a different beast." A massive production planned to the millisecond and freighted with dollars signs waiting to happen, Breaking Dawn brings several years of Stewart's life to a climax. She feels the weight of portraying Bella Swan, "a character who is embedded in so many people's psyches at this point. It's starting to enter my head a lot more than it used to because it's at the end and it's come such a long way. I just want the fans of the book to be happy." She laughs. " I don't necessarily care about anyone else."

To a large segment of the population, Stewart may have sprung fully formed onto the screen as an incarnation of their favorite heroine. (At last count, Stephenie Meyer's books have sold some 100 million copies worldwide.) But, despite her youth, Stewart has made more than 20 films, many of them independent and nearly all of them stellar, and pulled off such pitfall-ridden roles as a teenage rape victim and a girl disabled by neurological illness. She grew up in the Valley, the daughter in a family on the more nuts-and-bolts side of the industry - her mother is a script supervisor, her father a TV producer, her brother is a grip. After being spotted as a child at a school performance, Stewart walked straight onto the A-list, talking her first proper role in 2001's The Safety of Objects, an adaptation of A.M. Homes story collection, alongside Glenn Close and Patricia Clarkson, and her second in Panic Room, a virtual two-hander with Jodie Foster. "At that time I just thought it was fun," she says, grateful that she began her career before adolescent insecurities set in. "I don't think I would ever have been able to be an actress had I not started at nine years old. I would have been the last person to stand up and say, 'I'd like to star in the play."

Some facts about Stewart: Currently on her nightstand are Dave Cullen's Columbine; Into the Wild author John Krakauer's Under the Banner of Heaven, a study of radical Mormonism; and Anna Karenina. On her playlist, the Shins, Broken Bells, and Jenny Lewis, the L.A musician who puts Stewart in the unusual position of being starstruck herself: "She's the only person I've ever met that I can't function around." (Stewart also plays guitar and was thrilled to portray Joan Jett, whom she got to know, in The Runaways.) Her favorite movies are John Cassavetes' A Woman Under the Influence, starring Gena Rowlands, and La Vie in Rose, with Marion Cotillard.

She loves Jane Fonda in Klute. Her new hobby is cooking, no doubt encouraged by the fact that she lives in a somewhat isolated way: "You build a perimeter of people that are really important to you." Friends tease her for watching the Food Network with a stern frown of concentration on her face. "I'm such a dork." (The frown pays off. For lunch, she prepares an elaborate, and delicious, Mexican tortilla soup with numerous condiments, slong with pulled-pork sandwiches.) She also likes involving private membership and small numbers of people over large areas. So far, a regular if interesting young woman. In other ways, not regular at all. If she sees a teenage girl. Stewart will literally duck and cover. "There's no way to eloquently put this", she says. "I just can't go to the mall. It bothers me that I can't be outside very often. And also to not ever be 'some girl' again. Just being some chick at some place, that's gone."
She can pinpoint the week she stopped being "some girl" and entered the land of 24-hour security, lockdowns, and endless speculation about her relationship with her co-star Robert Pattinson, which she refuses to discuss. ("It's not my job.") She had completed the first Twilight movie, which had not yet been released, and just filmed Welcome to the Rileys in New Orleans, where, she says, "I feel so good walking down the street by myself," before correcting herself: "At least I used to." She went back for an extra week of work during editing, and suddenly she coudn't walk down the street anymore. "It really erupted," she says. "It was a weird thing to watch."

Stewart, who is careful never to complain about the mixed blessing of the Twilight phenomenon, is smart enough to understand the nature of her particular celebrity. "Masses of girl identified with Bella in a really profund way, for want of a better world," she says. "The connection that I've seen people have.. I've seen it physically. It's the chacacters they're flipping for." She also feels the power for good that comes with her influence. "It's funny when you are endowed not only with public recognition on a fucking seriously vast level, but also money," she says with endearing earnestness. "Like, funds." (She was reportedly paid $25 million for the two films of Breaking Dawn, plus a percentage of the gross.) "Anytime I hear that somebody's really rich, the first question is 'Do you do anything with it? Or do you, like, chill? You just sit on it?'" She is thinking carefully, strategically, about how best to put her own contribution to use, and has a plan - inspired by her researches for the role of a runaway in the sex trade - to set up a network of halfway houses to help those who want to recover and get back on their feet. "That would be amazing," she says. "Right now it's the thing I feel most connected to."

Stewart carries a lot on her slender shoulders for a young woman barely out of her teens. But her transition to adulthood will be a boon to moviegoers. She herself may doubt that she will eventually be able to move past the Twilight juggernaut - "At this point it seems like 'We'll see what the Twilight girl did. Let's see how she's trying to be different'" - but others disagree, and a generation for whom the tattle about KStew and RPattz is not so compelling and the Twilight movies perhaps a guilty pleasure rather than a fervent passion can look forward to seeing her flex her muscles in adult roles. Her nerviness and cool on-screen are interesting to watch, qualities gorwn women would like to see their relfection in. "She's one of the smartest actresses I've ever worked with," says Condon. "Not only does she have astonishing technical ability, she has an incredibly incisive and serious approach to character. She has just unlimited potential.".

Nice interview. So impressive for somebody that young to be so acomplished. I don't think there are many HW actors who are as real, intellegent and not self-centerd as Kristen. It seems like whoever conducted the interview was quite smitten with her too.

Love her book choices as well.

Thanks S, for posting this so quickly. You're awesome

Aww gosh I love her! She is so smart and knows exactly who she is, and ofcourse ridiculously beautiful! Love her hair this colour... Okay I always love her hair.

WOW! Kristen looks so strikingly beautiful, so mature. Love the blonde. But what I love most is the interview and how she says she's taking her time deciding what to do with her money. I respect and admire her even more (which I didn't think was possible) hearing her discuss what she would like to do for runaways and victims of sex trade. She really is the whole package.

Anna Karenina is my second favorite book (Austen´s P&P being first), I have read Tolstoi ever since I can remember, love his writing!
And what can be said about our Stewie? She is gorgeous and beautiful and sexy as hell, But the most important quality is she is real and not rehearsed, such a rarity in Hollywood, a gem of a girl.

My husband watches the food network religiously, LOL. (I myself, hate to cook!!!)

@ Anahita - Yes, my sweet, it's me! Sorry I have been MIA for soo long. I have just been buried with work and life stuff! Miss you and sending you big hugs! I hope you are well! And I will try to post more. Miss you guys so much!!! :)

I still can't believe how beautiful she is. See people who work with her have nothing but the best to say about her and I really wish people would just pay attention to that rather than all the other crap. She's the real thing. She's smart. Kind. Gorgeous and knows what is important. I am happy that she made this cover - it's high time!

I love that she is all about the work and not about the fame. I find that so admirable. It's not easy sticking to your beliefs like she does - esp in Hollywood. She's got a great head on her shoulders and that strength in her sense of self is what counts and matters. It would be easy to give in and play the game, but she knows that is not her and she won't debase herself like that. I wish there were more actresses like her. Rob & Kristen are just such a great fit, because they do have a sense of integrity about them which is so rare these in young Hollywood! She is a beauty inside and out. Love her!

Anonymous said...

She's seems like such a great person. I love the quote "It's not my job". Tell 'em girl! Hold firm on that. Love her. I can't wait for OTR.

Anonymous said...

I can't help but wonder where Rob was while Kris was doing the interview? Was he there? Probably not, but I can't help but imagine the scenario:

Rob opens the door and says " Welcome, come on in."
Interviewer spots Kris in the kitchen, Kris says " Hey, I'm Kristen, nice to meet you. Can I get you anything to drink?"
Rob says to Kristen " Hey I'll be in the other room if you need anything." He looks at the interviewer and says " Nice to meet you, don't be too rough on my girl." He smiles and walks away, leaving Kris happy and comforted knowing that he's there if she needs him.
Ah, the blessing of an overactive imagination :)

Kristen is BEAUTIFUL personified. Love the pics and I agree, we should band together to make this the most sold Vogue issue. I remember the rumours from last year re Vogue cover. It seems AW and Kristen Stewart came to an understanding. Go Kristen!

She cooks, knits, plays the guitar, great taste in literature, is a good daughter, sister, girlfriend, person. Not to mention, she's smart and mega talented as an actress and I just love her singing voice.

Absolutely thrilled to hear about her philanthropic aspirations.

@inessa

I think the cover looks v v natural and beautiful. V all American.

It's the cover of Vogue. That's an incredible honor for any actress let alone one that is only 20. Halle Berry just got her first cover last yr! Anna Wintour's decides when and who she gives a cover. It's not uncommon for her models to not have anything to promote for a few months. But it is a sure sign that AW's thinks Kristen is major and that is huge.

@Inessa I can't tell if you're a Kristen fan because you're being overly critical of everything. Not one nice thing to say. The photoshoot and interview were great.

Awesome! Love the interview and the photos. This will be my first purchase of Vogue ever. I could not love Kristen more if I had given birth to her. I'm so proud of her and can't wait to see what the future brings. I wish so much for her that she could just be normal and go shopping or walk down the street like she wants. She's handling that so maturely. I'd be much more unhappy and upset about it than she is. She's a trooper for sure. I will never understand fans who do this. I would love to meet Kristen someday, but I would never intrude on her personal time. That's what fan events are for and so many are scheduled around film promotion that everyone truly wanting to meet a star can meet that star. Maybe, hopefully, someday, a time will come when celebrities are respected more than they are now and they can be free to enjoy simple pleasures like taking a walk, or running errands, or buying clothes, or eating in a restaurant like every else and not have to worry about being mobbed.

rob, you are so lucky to have her in your life.. hope you will take care of our kristen..

@KPattz If you're not a regular here, I would have other ideas bout your comment. Well, its really subjective and yes you are a minority here with your views. Personally, I really like the styling of the shoot, its kinda old Hollywood. Its really classy. Maybe the younger ones like yourself just cant really appreciate that. Oh well.

its different, its more like a 60's style shoot, her hair colour is different to her eyebrow colour , maybe thats why she looks different, but i LOVE it and i totally get the concept behind the photoshoot.

Hi all- Kristen always looks beautiful but this look is different from the rock n roll gal that has been shot all this time and a lot of it has to do with creating the persona that is going to be hers in her next role in OTR- Rob had to do Details to look like the morally challenged Bel-Ami character so people sub consciosly accepted him in that type of a role...same with Kristen- it was intentionally planned to look closer to Marylou and as different from Bella as can be- Beautiful/thoughtful and as inspiring hopefully to other 20year olds...

S,i'm not so young,i'm in my mid 30s and i think that this photoshoot isn't flattering. The Elle magazine,YES!The Interview magazine.Hell yeah! And so many other Kristen's photoshoots. The girl is stunning and i didn't see that in Vogue. To be totally honest, the second pic is good, but the cover and especially the last one?Why did they photoshopped a girl with such an amazing face?I can't understand that at all!

Sorry, but that's my POV.I loved the interview thought. Our girl shows once again that she hasn't only beauty but brains too.

I tend to agree with KPattz but only about the picture with the homegirl article. they use too much photoshop in this one I don't understand why they did that, you barely even recognize her.

Anyway this is a little thing in comparison of the other pictures and the interview of course. She's really beautiful.

Wow. I'm so thrilled about this. I've always thought about Kristen as A-list and always will but this make this official, not that I care but I'm happy.
I love this photoshoot. She's the prettiest and I love this interview. Beautiful beautiful Kristen.

Wow, she looks gorgeous! Have no words... My favorite is the third picture... :)

The interview was very good, nothing really new but Kristen has always inspiring things to say about the Hollywood system & her work ( she's so passionate! ), plus here about her dedication to the Twifans & her investment for lost people... it shows her state of mind, which is one of the first things that attracted me to her. She's so cool & unconventional, everytime I read that kind of article I'm like "Fuck yeah! You're so right baby!" I love this girl so fucking much, she ONLY deserves love anyway.

Yeah the pics are very beautiful - as usual - she looks like a little doll in a "vintage" setting. It's original and a smart idea for some early OTR promotion.
It's always great to see new photoshoots of pretty bb girl, most of all when it's been a long time. She surprised us once again, so me happy! :)

So proud of our girl! It's just so wonderful to see her growing as an actress and a person before our eyes! This young lady has such a extraordinary career ahead of her!

So beautiful.

So she cooked a whole spread of food for everyone in her "friend's" kitchen...yeah, right...she was at Rob's! If you're going to make yourself at home & dirty up someone's kitchen, it most likely belongs to the man in your life. But maybe that's just me...she's still so friggin' cute! She's like the little sister I always wanted, but my mom never got me!

@KPattz I slightly agree w/you about the cover photo. But I think she really connects w/the camera in that photo. Anytime you see the person 1st, then you notice what she's wearing, that's a good photo. Her eyes jump off the page, you know? Is it a "pretty" picture per se? Not really, but it's a stop you in your tracks kind of picture and that's what sells magazines, well I'm definitely buying it. (Don't get me wrong, she's beautiful...it's just not a pretty picture. If that makes any sense at all.)

I like her beautiful face with a bushy eyebrow, she looks more sophisticated. She is absolutely beautiful. I love her. I wish we could have a fan picture from Rob and Kristen soon with some major PDA.

I can't believe that cover!!!!it's too beautiful for words!i'm a big fan of testino and i think he has done a great job!oh god, the Proenza dress is beyond perfect!I need to have that magazine!!hope i can buy it in my country.

God, this girl always surprised me...great interview and she looks FANTASTIC!

I just like this fact from the article: "...to set up a network of halfway houses to help those who want to recover and get back on their feet. "That would be amazing," she says. "Right now it's the thing I feel most connected to."
How can't you love a girl like Kristen with compassion? Like Rob said she is an amazing person. I wish there's always a light to guide her on her path, so that she could do whatever she thinks it's great for the people. All the best for Kristen.

i can't wait to see on the road, i know that she will appear in it with unimaginable beauty

i LOVE that she hadn't to sell her personal life to get there!

Just had a thought about the uproar over her Rape remark way back(which I thought she should never have apologised for but she did),those people must be feeling kinda stupid now after reading this article and hearing what she's wanting to do for the Lost Girls etc...what a brave undertaking from 1 so young, good luck to her and hope her dreams come true...

Well I got my issue of EW from the store today, Feb. Vogue is not there yet :( I will definitely keep checking until it is on the shelf. They usually come out a little earlier than their designated month don't they? I hope so, I cannot wait to get this issue!!!
@Delle1 I completely agree with you!! She is such a kind soul.

Fantastic interview! Thanks for the update, S. Kristen is so mature for her age, it's amazing. And she's got cool taste in music (love Rilo Kiley) and her reading list sounds so interesting! I've got Anna Karenina on my bookshelf too! - SH

When this was transcribed, they left out the boyfriend part when referring to Rob. Article says "costar-boyfriend" and the one above just says costar.
