Snow White Update: Hugh Jackman Officially Passed on the "Huntsman' Role

Variety/John Dickey "We've learned that Hugh Jackman has officially passed on "Snow White and the Huntsman." That's 0-for-2. Back to the drawing board ."

Variety Internet rumors had it that Hugh Jackman was being eyed for the male lead opposite Kristen Stewart in "Snow White and the Huntsman," but it never came to pass. Jackman's schedule and salary demands never really made sense for the Universal pic, which also has Charleze Theron attached. So with Jackman officially no longer being considered, it's back to the drawing board for Universal now, and the clock is ticking -- SWATH is scheduled to shoot in August.

No sense in putting up a pic with this sad development.

ah bugger, hmmmmmmm how abot Keanu Reeves? have not seen him in a while. even the prince is still not known right?

I think it's a good thing that he passed. There are so many talented people they can consider for the role. I can't think of any... but I am choosing to be positive. :)
I wonder if the role is the love interest of the evil queen or snow white or just a dude on the hunt... that possibility makes a big difference casting wise.

I didn't think he would do it. It would have been cool though, cause I like him.

RobStenation said...

@girlnxtdr2u I will not give any spoilers about the role...just this- he mentors Snow White, so that she can be the tough chick.

Anonymous said...

How about Clive Owen?! he's hot too..

girlnxtdr2u said...

@Robsten- Feel free to spill it to me on Twitter! lol

Snow White would have to be a tough chick, right? Why else would K be interested? We all know she doesn't want to be a "babe".

We need to dust ourselves off and think(not that we have a say, but hey, it helps with the depression-LOL). What are some characteristics required of the role?:

at least 30-35 if not older, strong acting abilities, attractive, fairly strong/tough

Let's throw some names of various ages out:
Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Timothy Olephant, Eric Bana, Liam Nieson, Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Orlando Bloom, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Kevin Costner, Joaquin Phoenix. The shame of it is if they couldn't afford Hugh's salary demands, I doubt they could afford any of the above, save maybe Tim Olephant or Eric Bana.

@lala/c Keanu & Charlize are friendly so who knows?

I really hope the August deadline doesn't affect the quality of actor they can get.

Let's not get sad over this! We definitely liked him for the part, but there are other great actors too! :)

Sad panda :(
Back to the drawing board.
@Misty and all others who've read HG trilogy: Totally OT but I finished the last book today...OMG...loved these books!! Read the last book in less than 24 hours!

Christian Bale for the win!

@Misty

I love Timothy Olyphant. Love, love, love him. Justified is all over my DVR. He worked with Kristen once before and I wouldn't mind seeing them work together again!

Matt Damon is just awesome and I like Eric Bana too!

I guess the studio is going for older but what about Eric's fellow countryman, Sam Worthington?
I think he's good-looking, strong, and badass. Good actor too. But I think they want older or maybe a bigger name.

@anon 3:14 -- Christian Bale is one of my favorite actors! He would be good too. Would absolutely love to see him and Kristen work together.

Christian Bale,Viggo, very sexy, complicated, and mentally tough manly men...anyone know of others with this combo to be a less commercial yet believable pairing with K? Misty liked your shout out for males 30-35!:)I like throwing names out there but must admit the only movies I've squeezed in lately are R&K related. Loved"Fierce People" btw...can't believe K was only 15 wow was she comfortable with kissing on camera! She had a lot more body awareness than I did @15...again great story and great acting from Anton,Diane, and Donald(filmed 2005 in Vancouver to boot!). K must be sick of this rainy& polite:) town and ready for some LA sunshine on the 17th!My DVR is ready for all the upcoming WFE madness!

Keep positive, yes. Keanu Reeves, Eric Bana, Daniel Day Lewis, Madds Mikkelson (King Arthur), Michael Fassbender, Clive Owen or Josh Holloway (Sawyer,'Lost') are just a handful. If they wanted to go with an actor who'd be fresher to the big screen eyes, but has the chops to pull it off? I say Sam Stewart Witwer (Being Human).

Darn it! I really loved the idea of Hugh in this role! Oh well. I guess we will just have to wait and see who will fill it. I hope its someone good, I can't think of anyone I'd like in the role right now...

I go for Gerard Butler !!! Gerard!!!Gerard!!!Gerard!!!

sharilee said...

@Misty: Love the idea of Ben Affleck or Timothy Olyphant!
@Elizabeth: ITA about Timothy Olyphant; Justified is one of my favorites!!!
Just had a thought: Jason Statham from The Transporter movies? He can pull off rugged/tough pretty well.

Round of applause for the person who suggested Clive Owen. He would make an excellent choice.

RobStenation said...

@Anon 4.33 The 'Huntsman' role is more mature for someone as boyish looking as PB. He may play the prince though.

Hi,there gangs..I'm also disappointed that Hugh have turned down the role..I can't think of anyone at present..we just have to wait and see..maybe Hugh was not meant for the part!..JMO...hmm..haven't caught the 'Hunger Games' bug yet..I'm still enclosed in the Twilight Bubbles..you know...re-reading the books and watching all the dvds and YT..I need therapy..lol!!..oh well back to my Knitting then...hey lala/c :)

Universal, please just announce the final name and let's get done with it. It's so frustrating!

@Misty : Oh yeah, Joaquin Phoenix as the huntsman would be an awesome idea, didn't think about that one... *sigh* if only! LOVE that guy, and him & Kristen playing together would be a total win!

sharilee said...

@Misty: Email me girl! Nobody in my RL has read HG and I'm dying to discuss! shari_hop@yahoo.com

And, oh Clive Owen as the Huntsman, yes please!

Mel from Texas said...

@Misty, Timothy Olyphant! He is a great actor and one sexy man! Oh yeah!!!!!!!!!

@ Beside You, she was comfortable doing alot more than kissing at 15 in Fierce People! LOL I loved that movie but it was out there!!

@ Sharilee, I was one of the ones who read the Hunger Games, that is an amazing series, I bought them all so I could reread them whenever I want, it took me one day for each book, basically read all three in three days! I am now getting ready to start Mortal Instruments.....I read a book called Graceling the other day (a friend gave it to me to hold me over) It is a great story, I highly recommend it ladies of the "reading club" LOL

May be we should think out of the box. I think the Hunsman could be a foreigner that not many people knows him around. There're many actors out there who are able to fit into this role. The bottom line is he must have working chemistry with Kristen otherwise it won't work. Just hope things will turn out all right eventually.

Russell Crowe is a perfect choice. The business people behind Jackman maybe has predicted that this film is a blockbuster in the making, so they demanded an impossibly towering amount. Moneyface!

Lara said...

Fiuuhhh!i’m back from reality!LOL.sorry for not posting comments often, too much homework, exam, and my chores in my home!and awwww….it’s okay everyone don’t be sad about it just be positive and strong and believe that SWATH casting will be alright and do well.i think hugh jackman is great but to be honest he doesn’t THAT fit for the huntsman roles.i think the actor who is SOO perfect for the role is JOHNNY DEPP but truly sad that he passed on this amazing project.but we need to move on!lol there is so many talented actors out there that could be the perfect huntsman!it’s just a matter of times and passion for universal and the fans.so be POSITIVE everyone!*smile face*

That sad that Hugh passed on the part.
I agree with lala, give it Keanu Reeves. He's not only good looking but his also a nice guy.I have met him in my neighborhood while he was visiting his cousin.

Fanny said...

@Misty,you're right Keanu and Charlize are good friends. That will be perfect.

Fanny said...

Universal will not able to get Russell Crowe,George Cloney and Christian Bale. They're one of the highest paid actors in HW right now.
I like Mat Damon but no.Clive,Timothy and Eric will be good. Are we forgetting Edward Norton and Edward Burns.

Thank God it's not this musicalguy!!! Someone who teaches Snowwhite to be a tough cookie? What about Robert de Niro? Cristoph Waltz? Sean Penn? Matt Damon? Gary Oldman? Or what about Johnny Depp? Daniel Day Lewis is scary, in a good way... Sam Shephard? Brat Pitt with long hair? Joaquin Phoenix. I think I've said that before... What's the name of this years Oscarwinner for best actor? He's british, isn't he?

RobStenation said...

@ANon 7.38 Maybe you would want to leave an alias next time so we'd know if "you've said that before". lol Colin Firth won the best actor in this year's Oscar.

Guys, I still want Clive Owen for this role, but Keanu would also be a good fit. If only its in our hands. lol

Peggy said...

There are so many great male actors out there..they have got to be able to find someone.

Anonymous said...

I vote Keanu, it would be movie #3 with Charlize! But Joaquin can play a mad huntsman to boot, LOL.

My favorite would be Sean Bean, even if he´s "slightly" older, like a good wine he gets better with age!!!

Karina.

Jonathan Ryes Myers would be perfect as the huntsman!!!!

Gorgeous and mind blowingly talented!!!!

Since we've started our own Robstenation casting agency, when are we going to start campaigning for Rob as Jeff Buckley in the new biopic being developed and directed by none other than WTTR director, Jake Scott. We know Rob has expressed interest in the role in the past so start crossing everyone!

dano328 said...

Doubt he would do it, but I second the Christian Bale suggestion. Don't know if I like him but his acting skills are impressive.

RobStenation said...

@Hey Dan, welcome back man!

@Misty Lol to that 'Jeff Buckley' rumor. Its a regular thingy. This time its because of Jake Scott hooking up with the untitled biopic.

Misty said...

@S Even if Rob's interest is just rumor, he would be perfect casting. Maybe Kristen can put in a good word with Jake-not that he needs it. I think other "people" are already throwing Rob's name around anyway as someone they'd like to see in the role, so who knows. What I wouldn't give to see Rob sing in a movie!

lala/c said...

good morning peeps, ohhhhhhhhh i see you like the ides of Keanu ok well maybe we can call his agent, lol
Malia glad you got the hunger games, you will love it. i am enjoting the mortal instruments too. hey there are more than 3 books, the fourth one is out and the other two will come out next year.

I am sorry I have to say "NAY" to Gerard Butler...he's an ass-grabbing prick and I don't want him anywhere near Kristen!

Ok if I had to pick out of what's been mentioned than Eric Bana or Clive Owen or some hot 30something tough foreign guy with wit for me (my funny never gonna happen pick would be Karev from Grey's)!
