Love scene...Rob totally had Edward hair, which makes sense because he was sick at the Golden Globes as well
So funny when he woke up in the trunk with the make up and stuff on :p
Hal Holbrook was hilarious! Im trying to think of a specific thing he said but my memory excapes me. I just remember lauging at him a lot. Oh yeah, making fun of the kid with the "rings in his face"
Stayed very true to the book, often with direct quotes from Jacobs thoughts which was nice.
How bout the manure scene in the wife beater.....WOW!!
I didnt think Rob and Reese had that great of chemistry after all. The interviewers said they did and they seem to get along and have fun together, but it just felt awkward and forced (to me!)
SO SAD when Tai "gets beat" even though I was expecting it and I knew it wasnt real :(...
And when it shows Kinko and Camel on the rocks :( They didnt have to SHOW it!
How bout the end when it shows them holding the newborn baby and they're looking down at it (SWOON) I tried to picutre Kristen with him doing that. They're gonna be the cutest lil family (next to my own, of course)
To be honest. I didn't really like it as much as I thought I would.
Not Rob, or Reese's fault. They are great people.
Just thought the movie was made out to be a big hype, and stuff.
Rob did look hot, and sexy as always. If he wasn't in the movie I would have left.
I hope others enjoyed it, and I still hope it makes good numbers ($) this weekend.
That's just MY view.
I went with a group of ladies between 32 and 60 years old. We all absolutely loved it! The theater was full and I heard tons of positive comments while leaving.
I plan on seeing it again on Monday night with my husband and again on Mothers Day. I know I will see it at least 2 more times while it's in the theaters with other friends.
Yeah it has differences from the book but I think they did a great job! There is never anyway to get the full book down to 2 hours time frame and those who get mad because things were cut from the story line to do so are crazy.
Go see this movie - you won't be disappointed.

My favorite scene is DEFINITELY the part where Rob and Reese's characters meet Rosie for the first time. It was such a cute scene. There's a really funny scene where Rob wakes up from a night of "debauchery" with clown make up, a wig, and a toga-like thing on, and the scene after that where he's talking to Kinko and Kinko's like "do your balls itch?" Lmfao! That cracked me up. The ending was great, seeing Rob with the children made me think of him having a baby with Kristen, and yes, I did picture Kristen there instead of Reese. Lol. Reese was great in the movie, though. Pretty much everyone did an outstanding job. And the love scene was sweet, I liked it, Rob always manages to give love scenes extra sensual-ness(I know that's not a real word, let's pretend it is). Overall, it was an incredible movie, I think anyone who watches it will love it. (:
I think this was such a real movie....not a CGI wonder. The characters were cast well. Without a doubt, Rob was outstanding and will prove the critics wrong. My only complaint would be that the love scene lasted a little longer...not just the "sex" part, but the build up like what was in the book. This version came across as rushed and I do understand they only hae 2 hours to fit it all in but a couple of lines of dialogue would have sufficed. I imagine we"ll see WFE on the lists come award season, costumes, cinemotography and musical score are all award worthy. Not sure if the actors will get the praise they so deserve.
I saw the movie last friday when it opened in Sweden. And I kinda liked it. It wasn't amazing but still enjoyable. I really hope it does well though, it's important for Rob's career that it does well.
The one scene that I thought was funny, but also mildly disturbing was Rob popping out of the box wearing a dress and covered in clown makeup. That's not the way I ever want to see Rob. I leaned over and said to my friend "oh no, that's just wrong" But we were both also laughing, but still were also a little grossed out :)
The movie was so good, I don't have any favortie scene, I loved the whole movie!! I was totally crying when August was hurting Rosie...i can't lie. That was sooooooooo sad! ahha I loved when Jacob woke up in that truck all dressed up like a lady. And I love when Reese and Rob meet the elephant for the first time :):)
Went to see the movie with a group of friends and we enjoyed it. The movie stayed true to the book, of course with some changes. Rob played Jacob pretty well and he looked super hot. Reese looked gorgeous, but her playing Marlena wasn't as i imagined while reading the book. About C.Waltz i want to say that I'm so glad to know this actor , because i never watched any his movies. He just nailed August. He was Terrific! When August beat Rosie, i had chills, goosebumps and tears in my eyes and i even closed my eyes not to see those scenes.
As for Rob's chemistry with Reese, i don't think it exist. Their chemistry with Tai was stronger than their owns.
I wish old Jacob scenes were more, at least 3-4 times during the movie.
The music in the movie -i even cant find words to describe how beautiful and magical it was.
I agree that the scene with him coming out of the trunk was a little much. I bet Kristen laughed for days after seeing that! The chemistry between Rob and Reese was definitely not anywhere near that of Rob and Kristen (nothing is THAT hot!), but I thought they were good together. Overall, it was really great!
I just got back from seeing the movie. I loved it so much. The relationship with the crew and the cast and the elephant was amazing. I was glad Rosie killed August. I cried when August beat her. And then when he hit Marlena I wanted to jump into the screen and knee him.
Best movie ever. I love Rob and his acting and I hope everyone goes and sees this movie and supports his career.
I'm excited that I will see the movie for myself tomorrow night! I'm anxious to see what my take will be on the whole Rob/Reese chemistry thing! Either way I'm sure I will love the movie since I'm a huge fan of the book and anything with Rob in it! And, of course Reese! I have never seen anything with Christoph Waltz so I'm particulary excited to see his performance. I don't think Rob could ever have the chemistry with Reese or anyone else the way he does with Kristen! When you're in love with someone it shows!
I love love love when Jacob woke up after he got drunk! He looked so cute when he came out of the chest. His laugh was adorable through out the movie. I love how Jacob(rob) was so passionate about the animals. It was a great movie I'm so gonna buy when it comes out!
:D
i was so engulfed in the movie that i wasnt really thinking about rob or anything. just his character i loved him. and the very last part where they areshowing them and the babies was so incredible sweet. i wasnt invisioning kristen like some of you were lol. i think the two have amazing on screen chemistry. though his performance was subtle, rob was so perfect in it because he was totally believable! it was such a beautiful movie and i have already seen it twice. its better the second time around so go see it again! (:
i like the scene when Rob and some old guy walk acros the train and there is everybody and those girls dancers opens robs shirt :D
sorry my english!!!
I love all the scenes that Rob has with Rosie. You can how much he loved working with Tai. Loved the lemonade scene and the scene where Rosie's trunk got a bit personal. ;)
I thought all the actors were fabulous, but there were a couple times, where I thought Reese was a little flat. But overall they all worked well together.
Loved Hal Holbrook. I was turned to a puddle of goo and tears at the end when he was describing his time with Marlena and they were showing the pics with the baby and their family.
I've seen it twice now and want to go see it again.
I saw WFE, audience surprised me that was ranging from 40 to 50 y/o. This book has been a best seller and has diverse fan base. It was well made, well acted and a good adaptation from book to movie.
The only thing I liked about this movie was Rob. It wasn't that great, but since Rob was in it my sister and I saw it.

i like the scene when rob said the title of the song to reese something about i love you, his reaction there was so genuine and soooo good, i think you can see that in one of the extended clip, but really it was a good movie, it really IS HIS movie, i like his chemistry with christoph it comes across the screen, but with reese couldnt see the spark! which is strange coz they looked like they enjoyed each others company in the interviews! but anyways its a must see movie that everyone would enjoy! cono1z
Yeah we can spoil!! First Hal Holbrook was great. I love that they made him not so "curmudgeney" and more content. I was most shocked by Christoph because I'd never seen any of his movies. He actually made August complex and not just a bad guy. The scene when August is in his train car right after he beat Rosie with his head in his hands, I could almost feel sympathy for the guy--I said ALMOST. LOL And I thought Christoph & Reese's scenes together were great. When he was drunk & grabbed her chin & she had to "talk him down" Reese was really believable as a battered woman who had down this before. I really thought Rob did offer most of the chemistry between Jacob & Marlena. But maybe that was intended because he was often observing her from afar while she was trying not to acknowledge her feelings. The scene where August forces Jacob & Marlena to "perform" his little act was intense & electric. There were so many emotions in that scene--one of my favorites. I have to agree the love scene was a bit disappointing. It did feel rushed but maybe that was the point that they didn't know how much time they had together & really what could they say in that situation. Maybe it was supposed to be intentionally instinctual. Maybe music would have made the difference(was there music during the love scene?)Anyway had to get the hotness elsewhere like anytime Rob was dirty & sweaty (OFTEN) or in the tux. I loved drunk Jacob--Rob was so giddy. I was really looking forward to the trunk scene in the dress & I loved it. I thought it was hilarious & wish I had a pause button to take it all in. Although I did wonder how Rob felt filming that scene in front of all those people. Somehow I doubt Rob has trouble laughing at himself, but I still am shocked none of the interviewers asked him about that scene during the promo time. I loved Jacob's relationship with Rosie. You could tell Rob really loved filming those scenes. His joy seemed so genuine. All of the scenes surrounding Rosie's beating was superbly acted by Rob. But his most "Oscar-worthy" moment was when he came back to the empty train car & realized Walter & Camel had been redlighted. You could feel all his emotions-despair, grief, guilt, fear, anger. So incredible. Finally, I loved the ending. The finale in the menagerie was so well acted. I did not expect August to try to kill Marlena. That was INTENSE--kudos to all for that scene-so well done. And the black & white home movies were a nice way to wrap it up and also explained all the papz pics we saw from the set during GG time. I guess my only real complaint is to myself. I watched waaay too many clips, trailers, etc. and felt like I saw too much of the movie before I went to the theater. I will have to do better at restraining myself for Breaking Dawn.
PS. Definitely deserves Oscar noms if for nothing else cinematography & costume design
ahahaahha I totally imagined Rob with Kristen with the babies too. I didn't feel the chemistry with Reese...i don't know..maybe because his chemistry with Kristen is so amazing that it will never be better than that.
Just saw it!!!!! LOOOOOOVED IT!!! Anyone who doesn't like it...I just don't even know what to say. The movie made me drool (from all the fuckhotness that is Rob), wanna cry (I didn't cry cuz I'm just strong like that but I seriously seriously wanted to..it was stuck in my throat), laugh (everyone in the theatre was laughing out loud at the morning after debauchery Rob), angry and feel warm and fuzzy. It was a GREAT movie! I was soooooo happy when Marlena got to beat August with that hated poker thing. He deserved it oh so much. Dirty Rob is oh-so-fucking-HOT!!!! And Rob's narative..DEAD. I wish he could have narrated it with his English accent...but I don't suppose that would go along with the movie. People in the theatre clapped when it was over so I know that I was not the only one who loved it.
I saw it yesterday and just loved it! I thought Rob did an absolutely fantastic job as Jacob. His performance in each scene was perfect. He displayed happiness, fear, sadness and anger that felt so real to me. Well done, Rob. And well done to Reese and Christoph too. Yes, the clown makeup scene was a strange look for Rob, but it was quite funny too! Tai was adorable. As for the romance, those scenes were a bit shorter than I expected, so there wasn't a lot of time for them to deepen their chemistry. All in all, they managed to put a lot of the book into the movie and I found myself totally immersed in the story and really enjoyed it!

Rob/Christoph/Reese were great. Rob’s growing well as an actor. There were some fantastic moments with Tai. It was fascinating seeing what circus life was like back then. The sets and cinematography were beautiful.
Like most book to movie adaptations (including the Twilight movies), I find too many things glossed over and rushed. I don’t have a problem with love scenes but when they just jumped off a moving train, running away from being killed, they make love? Was the love scene a reshoot, or an addition because they wanted to show more chemistry between Jacob/Marlena? When filmmakers are pressured to keep the movie around 2 hours, they are forced to edit the movie too much. They keep all the main points, but the fine nuances of the book are lost. If only the main points are hit (in the last part of this movie), it became a melodrama that’s been seen before.
Now, without a doubt, I know that the main reason the Twilight movies have been successful is because of the Rob/Kristen dynamic. I had issues with the movies, but the strength of R/K’s portrayal of E/B overshadowed the niggly points.
I just saw the movie (2 hours ago) and I'm surprised at how much I liked it.I think rob did a great job,and i enjoyed seeing him laugh in a movie,it was refreshing.I just did't like reese in it:(.. I don't have a favourite scene, but I cryed at the end when old jacob talked about his life with marlena.it was a sad scene
I have so much to say...I really loved this movie even more than I thought I would. Most important I thought Rob's acting was brilliant and showed his range. Loved Rob's narration and some of the script changes (that Jacob offers the train might have been sent by his dead parents)and song lines.
What blew me away was the all the things that made this an old hollywood film: the set, costumes, cinamatography, light,
directing and the leading man.Camel,Kinko, and even Walter were spot on to what I imagined.Esp.loved the walk through the train car with guide Camel explaining the various circus roles.
Loved the pie scene kiss,2nd laying down kiss b/w J+M,and the acting out lovers scene with August(oh,Christoph played him exactly right, how I knew he would). I felt the connection b/w J+M.Reese played the abused cautious wife perfectly.I wish there was like one more short scene that showed M's love for J,maybe watching him or something b/c when M tells J she loves him I believed it but the book had shown their relationship grow and even if the movie is a shorten version they still needed to show more of M's feelings for J.Loved the Kentucky older Jacob scenes and the b+w silent older Jacob scenes(so needed for the reshoot!).
Loved smiley+laughing Rob(scene when all the girls kiss him and he is uncomfortable),loved the lemonade scene and the first scene when Rosie is hurt with blue shirt Rob in a dark wooded stall(b/c the pain and anguish in hurting Rosie is SO believable from Rob..makes me think of snail-land,ha).Everything went so fast can't wait to see again!Hal H. was incredible and perfect...must have been so hard for him to play an older person who has lost a wife he loved.
Rob's beauty was like an old hollywood leading man...Rob SHOCKED me with his portrayl of Jacob...he was stronger, tougher, very manly shovelling manure in the white tee and saint necklace. Jacob was perhaps the most confident human man I've seen Rob play and it was a nice change (makes me so siked for Bel Ami and Cosmopolis). Jacob seemed so sure of himself with Marlena and 1930's with his mannerisms and the range of emotions from Jacob was incredible. Jacob was 3dimensional and a rich character thanks to Rob.
Ok,S,sorry so long...
Oops I meant pie scene...there was no kiss(but there was heat)!
There were so many moments about the movie that I liked, I don't know how to pick...the very first scene had me in tears, when old Jacob sees the pic of Marlena on Rosie and he's trying not to cry--he was so genuine. So heartbreaking! Another one of my favorites was the "shoveling manure" scene--there can never be too much of dirty Rob in a wifebeater and necklace, flexing his muscles. For the love of all that is holy, he is shoveling sh*t and still makes it look sexy. There is nothing this man can't do! Also loved the scene where he climbs out of the trunk in clown makeup with a tassel on his nipple..so funny! The scene where August makes Jacob and Marlena act out a love scene--so scary, you can see just how crazy he is. Actually, any scene with August is compelling. You really can't look away. Loved the final fight sequence--different from the book, and scarier--even though I knew how it would end, I was still holding my breath. Oh, and the black and white snippets at the end--so, so sweet when Jacob kisses Marlena's head as she holds their baby. Loved that whole montage, so sentimental and sweet. So many other scenes I liked, can't list them all. I think the movie really did the book justice, which is not easy to do. I can't wait to see it again!
i saw the movie twice (once in french and once in english) and I want to see it again !!! i was reading all the comments and cannot stop smiling, remembering scenes of the movie...
when old jacob cries when he saw a picture of marlena makes me want to cry [I am now in my bed writing my comment and I have tears on my eyes it's sad... he loves her so much and he will never see her anymore :(]
I also do see the chemistry between reese and rob (its not because he is with kristen in real life that I cant feel the love between his caracter and marlena)
I really like all the scene with august... we really felt his dangerous side especially when he beat rosie (it really breaks my heart seeing it), after the rex (the lion with no teeth) scene, when he wanned to jump jacob out of the train and the ending when he tried to kill marlena without stopping (it was so horrible)!!
and the love scene, for me, I think it was so beautiful when he approached her quietly to take her in his arms and kiss her... and when he took her leg... so hot !ahhhh I like love scene, its just so beautiful and I want to be in love :(
and the scene when jacob climbs out of the trunk in clown makeup was so hilarious... Rob had to be so embarrassed to make this scene... poor him... me too I pictured Kristen laughing watching this scene... so funny !
Rob was so hot in this movie... I loved the scene when Rob picked up the animals shit and we saw his muscles in action! ahhhhh so handsome !
after seeing the movie I felt so nostalgic like when I read the book... I dont want the story to be end... I want to know all the story of jacob and marlena's life... sooo sad...
the black and white scene at the end was so beautiful and makes me feel so nostalgic...
ahhhhh such a good movie !!!
AND I LOVE TAI !!!! SHE IS SO CUTE
NOW, MY FAVORITE ANIMAL IS ELEPHANT !!!
sorry if my english is bad or if what I write is too long... but I cant stop myself... the movie was so good for not to be told !!!
now, I just cant wait for breaking dawn part 1 with the wedding, the honeymoon and the other wonderful scenes...
WFE was glorious and Rob was AMAZING. He was perfect in every way. When he went after August with a knife he looked so scary and I loved it! When Rob came out of the trunk I wanted to scream in surprise. He's such a good sport. I understand people saying Rob/Reese didn't have chemistry or they wanted more passion in the sex scene, but I know that they had to edit down and that's unfortunate. But I also appreciated the tentative way they interacted b/c Marlena is married and Jacob didn't want to break them up (in the beginning). Then when they make love Jacob is so tender and gentle with Marlena which was appropriate considering the violence they just experienced. It made a great contrast to August. I've seen WFE twice and will go again hopefully at least two more times.
I have been on vacation and haven't been able to comment on this until now.Better late then never I say!
First off I knew what to expect when I went into the theater. I read the book numerous times and like all of you loved the book.. So when I went in to see the movie I thought that if it was anything like the book I would be pleased but as soon as the movie started rolling I saw that this was going to be way better then the book. The look and feel of the first few minutes of the movie set in motion what would be a memorable and beautiful experience for me. It was not only better then the book but it gave so much more! The feelings that Jacob had all the emotions were all so well played out by Rob and yes by Hal too! They both nailed it! Reese being an Oscar winner I expected her to be perfect as well but I found Rob's performance more believable then Reese's. As for Christolph? I think he brings August to life!
As for memorable parts I'll say the Rob and Tai interaction scenes, Rob coming out of the trunk scene HILARIOUS and the most heart wrenching scenes the beating of Tai, Jacob identifying his parents in the morgue and when he finds out his friends were thrown off the train.
I agree the look and feel of this movie deserves Oscar nominations for Cinematography, Art Direction and Costume Design but I wouldn't be surprised if we see an Oscar nomination for Christolph Waltz!
% stars out of 5 in my book!
I will be going again this weekend.
I saw it at the WFE premiere in Paris and it's a wonderful, beautiful, touching movie, well-acted and full of emotion. Rob is wonderful as Jacob, so sweet and innocent at fisr,s then slowly maturing in the harsh world of the circus. I did feel the chemistry with Reese, she's very good as Marlena, and Christoph portrays an amazing August. The whole theater erupted in cheers and applause at the end! I was so engrossed in the story... completety swept away. Kudos to Rob for his sweet and subtle performance and his incredible charisma.
I was lucky enough to win a competition to see water for elephants a few nights ago in London.....we don't have the premiere here until the 4th so you can imagine how excited I was to see it before everyone else....
bizzarly enough when we got to the cinema they made us sit through Moulin Rough first....and I was a bit gutted as I said to the friend I bought with me ( who was not a rob fan) water for elephants is going to seem so boring now as Moulin rouge is such an exiting, fast paced in your face visual feast....
I am happy to say that " Water " held its own, it was stunningly beautiful, made the audience laugh and wince in all the right places....I though Rob was amazing in his performance, playing strong and sure in his decision to put the horse down, and then shy & blushing during the stripper scene....he definately proved he has range and versatility..
and my friend, who as I said is not a rob fan, finally gets my obsession and thought he did really well.....If my preview audience is any indication I think " water " will play really well to a british audience
The end was kind of heartbreaking - in a good way. The black and white photos really touched me.
Rob was a perfect Jacob and I think Reese did an outstanding performance with all the acts on Thai. Christoph played his role very authentic.
For me the most touching scenes were when Jacob felt this powerlessness, his tears in his eyes when he sees people or animals mistreated by August.
I went today with my family and everybody loved the movie - even my hubby. :-) My kids wanted to buy the DVD as soon as it comes out. My older daughter cried two times. I want to go again to see the movie in English, because the German dubbing is kind of terrible.
