Jake Scott Talks About Directing Kristen
Jake Scott talks more about Kristen "She's very vulpine, very wolfish. and wily, kind of twitchy. Directing her is kind of like wrangling a herd of cats."
[Kristen]'s been playing this same character in—what?—two or three movies now, and that frustrates her," Scott dished on Twilight.
"She wants to be taken seriously as an actress—and the crazy thing is, before Twilight, she was doing that kind of work...She's very proud of her work in this movie."
One of those prevamp projects was actually how Kris landed the part as a runaway stripper in this family drama. Scott said he thought, "Oh my god, who is this kid?" when he saw Into the Wild. As he left the movie theater, he called Kristen's people and had an appointment set for the next day.
And he definitely got an actress who's serious about her craft.
"Kristen, more than anyone, would go off-script or off-course, but it would be brilliant and it would work. But it would throw [Rileys costars] Jim [Gandolfini] and Melissa [Leo]."
Scott explained that the veteran actors would make adjustments during the scene for Kristen, because they "respected her so," and they were totally into the fact that it "kept them on their toes."
"Also, that was her character. She was unpredictable...an uncontrollable force," Scott explained.

I'm sure this will create drama - [Kristen]'s been playing this same character in—what?—two or three movies now, and that frustrates her," but I believe that was taken out of context both from Kristen's statement and Director Jake Scott's. Frustration can and may mean lots of things to an actress...

yeah def taken out of context, she adores Bella, she always claimed that.maybe what he means is that people recognize her only for that role and so she will always be that chick from twilight.where as she obviously wants to be known also for other roles.
i don't like this interview at all. i feel like each little section was taken out of context to create drama.
or else this jake scott guy is trying to create drama because i have never heard any other director talk about Kristen like that
We all know that Kristen has said many times how she loves the character of Bella...so it may have been taken out of context.
What I find amazing is that he states Gandolfini and Leo were often thrown off due to Kristen's performance in a scene....very exciting.
One day Kristen is going to win many awards...I really believe she will. (NOT just saying that because I am a fan...she just has it!!)
@Lala/c ITA. Remember when this film was up at Sundance? festival, she said that she was so worried about the reviews because if someone said "go back to twilight"she would quit acting, and then she added "but thank God nobody said that". I think she doesn't want to be typecast and if we have to be honest with ourselves, twilight is no piece of art.
This is my first time commenting on this site, although I've been following it for a few months now.
I'm pretty sure that the "frustration" comment was taken out of context. The way I see it, from what Kristen has said, she's very proud of her work as Bella. What might be frustrating is that snob film-makers do not consider Twilight worthy material, and for an actress to still be second-guessed after all the hard work she's put into this... I'd find it frustrating too!
Cheers to you all!

Actually these 'so-called' little interviews that seems to come out in spurts are all from Sundance. You are right Dina lol. I'm just helping out reposting them to boost WTTR promo. :)
Yeah this interview just a litle out of context but i still proud of Kristen to makes this movie more excited!
I agree this will be taken out of context. We all know she is proud of her Bella charactor..heck if she didn't do the Twilight movies her fan base would be a lot smaller. That is my opinion. She is a very good actress.
so i had a question for anyone...when exactly did she do this film, before twilight or between twilight/nm???
i really hope that if she does get some sort of award nom that rob & kristen would go together, not like bafta's where they didnt even sit together, i understand privacy but come on...
@Ana73 She filmed this in the summer of 2008, right after Twilight. So, Twi haven't hit the theaters yet.
I'll go one further, Shaui. I think I heard Kristen was plucked right off the WTTR set to do promos of Twilight with Rob in Europe. Remember all that eye sexing. Sigh. Everyone on the WTTR set were amazed that Kristen came back on set the same person, no airs about her.
The "frustration" statement was definitely taken out of context. You always hear the BTS people, (the blue collar workers on the movie sets), not to mention her co-stars, are always praising her for her work ethics.
Unfortuneately, Kristen haters will latch on to this one and create drama.
I can't wait to see WTTR and hope to see it on the big screen.
Kristen loves all her work, otherwise she wouldn't accept that project. I admire Kristen that she has been working extremely hard not to be typecast. I'm optimistic. Our girl's career will be bright.

Kristen has said herself that she loves being able to play a character for four movies or whatever. But she HAS to also do other roles in between so that she doesn't stagnate. I think THAT'S where there may be some frustration may come in, especially since her bella role sometimes intrudes onto her other projects(aka paps in montreal).
And look, Jake is just pimping his movie. lol He's got one of the most famous teen idols in his movie right now, but she's famous for a franchise that isn't that respected. In his own way, he's trying to express that kristen gets to stretch in this role. the director of TYH made a similar remark, and Kristen actually shot his remark down publicly. lol
