MTV On the "Rileys" red carpet Monday, James Woods told us that "An American Girl," in which Stewart is set to star, is gearing up to shoot in 2011. "She's been committed to it for two years now, and we're just about ready to go now in the spring," he told MTV News.
Woods is directing the film, based on a script by Tom Metcalfe ("The Haunting in Connecticut"). The film follows a high school grad who's unknowingly recorded having sex and who joins the Marines to escape the humiliation.
Though Stewart had not yet become a breakout star in Hollywood at the time, Woods said he eyed her for the role based on advice from Sean Penn and Dennis Quaid, both of whom had worked with her on previous films. Woods' casting director tried to talk him into casting another actress, but he was adamant. "She's the one I want. She's it," he recalled telling the casting director.
"Her insight into the script was so perceptive and prescient as it turns out that I was overwhelmed with what a true professional and what a true artist she was, beyond her talent," he explained. "She's got a real brain for script analysis. She's just been totally devoted throughout all this fame. It's never dented her at all. She's been terrific from day one up until this very minute."
Despite that fame that has enveloped her since "Twilight" hit theaters in late 2008 — and despite all the roles that have come her way — Stewart remained committed to "American Girl." Woods, for one, expected nothing less from the young actress.
"She has been steadfast and true in her commitment, which did not surprise me, because when I started working with her on the script," he said, "she was so insightful."

Wow! Alright Kristen! Quite flattering compliments. Everyone always says the same things about her; she's professional, smart, and insighful, among many other comments about her professional attitude and devotion to her work. When you hear the same thing from multiple sources, then you know it's true.
I'm so happy for all the movies coming up!!!! BEL AMI, WFE, WTTR, OTR, BD1, BD2,and now this!!Plus I need to catch up on all the R&K movies I missed! Thanks again for all the info Shaui! Your site is so informative - I'm addicted!
=D ! FUCK YES
Sorry for the swear words, but I'm expressing my excitement for this film to be made. I've been waiting for some news if she's definitely going to film it, SHE IS ^_^
I am jumping up and down with excitement over James Woods' words about Kristen!!!
One question...does this mean she will cut her hair again??!! We just got thru that bad shag...sorry I did NOT like it on her...a wig would have sufficed IMO. Just wondering out what you all think. LOVING her hair now...
This is awesome! I mean, we know she's amazing of course, but it's wonderful to see her receive such high praise from so many talented professionals. I can't wait to see all the new movies, both from Robert and Kristen of course! =)
I LOVE Kristen AND ALL her movies, but I REALLY hope she doesn't cut her beautiful hair for AN AMERICAN GIRL. I don't see how she can avoid it though :(
I am happy for her and excited to see anything she has coming up. BUT I can't think of her cutting her hair again. I'm thinking this role may require something drastic again.
oh what a news she deserves all these compliments, from the name of the movie it seems that this movie is more and more Kristenish.she is an awesome talented actress she melts in the roles so i am sure this film will rock.
Shaui what we could do without you srysly, after all my studies and tiring days of university it is Robstenation that makes me relieved and cheerful so thanx million times.
ANAHITA.
It would be interesting to see her in a military role. I also like the idea of her in Wanted 2 but right now it seems that's just talk.
What kind of character she is going to play?
@Anon 2.01 A marine.
This is simply awe inspiring how people in the business, veteran caliber actors and directors, are lauding Kristen not just for her acting talent but her well known work ethic and the serious way she hones her craft. She really has gone a long way from that little girl in Panic Room. She just keeps improving with every character she plays.
Hats off to you, Kristen. Keep up the fantastic work!
Thank you Shaui, for this round of up to the minute news on our favorite couple.
I just hope the director does not exaggerate the sex scene. I hate people think Kristen as a sex symbol or something like that. Kristen is professional but I hope she won't sacrifice too much in her future movies. I wish they make this movie like the director of WTTR did with decent conscience decision.
Anyone know project Dennis Quaid and Kristen worked together on?
Can you imagine how buff she will get to play a marine? Hooya!(or something like that)
Finally they made An American Girl, I read from her IMD. Ahh I'm so excited :-)
Okay, I feel stupid. I finally watched the video--he mentions that Dennis Quaid worked with her on Cold Creek Manor. I will read AND watch next time before posting!
OH I can't wait for MarineStew. She'll be great in it like great in anything she does:)
I cant even listen to this guy talk. Love that he is saying great stuff about our girl and everything but all I picture if the Disney villain from Hercules he voiced, Hades. :x
The caliber of actor, director, and producer that praise Kristen Stewart is completely satisfying to me as a fan of hers. The types of people that actually take the time to come down on her craft really don't sit back and get to know the girl as a whole and the characters she's played, nor do they listen to the countless people that praise her after working with her. Not to mention high profile critiques that think she's the one to watch as an up and coming. Yeah I guess those of us that really enjoy her are just saying it all because of Twilight.*sarcasm*
I've seen many females in the milatary with long hair pulled back in a bun. The great thing about Kristen is that she doesn't hold back and does whatever it takes to create a believable character. It's cool that she's had so many different looks.
Kristen is an accomplished woman who deserves to be respected for what she does and who she is. Therefore I find it insulting to make commments about Kristen's hair! Surely you see that this lady is very refreshing and female steotyping for all women to be judged on appearance is condecsending and frankly boring. The comments made by Jake Scott are inspiring.
Kristen made all of these little Indie movies that hardly anyone watched but all that changed with Twilight. Now, she is getting the recognition that she deserves. She will be able to pick and choose her roles going forward. Her hard work and dedication to her career is finally paying off.
This is the one movie I want to see get made but only if it headlines Kristen Stewart.
Another person in the biz that says such wonderful things about Kristen.
Wow now that's wonderful! Kris has gained great respect by so awesome actors in the industry. And what James Woods contributed I'm sure made mama and papa stew very proud of thier beautiful young lady :) I'm so glad for her!!!!
Two thumbs up for Kristen!~ She's getting more and more recognition (at least from people in the business). Awesome!~
