Gossip Cop's Update on 'An American Girl' - As of now, No Start Date is Set

Kristen Stewart has a movie hitting theaters (Welcome to the Rileys) and a blockbuster set to start shooting (Breaking Dawn), but it’s a rumored film on the horizon that has outlets buzzing.

A number of sites have picked up on an interview James Woods gave to MTV, in which the actor-director praises Stewart’s talent and mentions her commitment to An American Girl, which he plans to direct.

“We’re just about ready to go now in the spring,” says Woods of the project, which follows a young woman who joins the Marines following sexual humiliation.

We knew An American Girl was in the works with the Twilight star involved, but this was the first time a production timetable had been suggested.

So is Stewart actually set to start the movie in early 2011?  Nope.

Sources tell Gossip Cop that Stewart’s camp is “hoping that’s the next film” she does, though there are still a lot of things that need to fall into place before a production of that size can begin.

As of now, though, we’re told there is no start date.

I was wondering about James' Woods comments that they would begin filming in the spring, when Kristen had said she didn't know what she would be doing next....makes sense that they are still hammering the details out. Sounds like an interesting movie, and of course, Kristen would shine in it!

@sharilee Exactly! I was wondering about that, too. :)

good news! when i read the article below about james wood, i was like "what duh?! what is he talking about filming in spring?! i just heard kristen herself said in on of her WTTR interviews that she has nothing really planned yet after BD!" though i think the story is good, i hope she takes a break to think things through before she decides on what to do next. she's been doing a lot of serious films lately with very heavy themes. let's not forget OTR and all of them has some sexual content on it. i would love to see her in another genre, something lighter or different before she does another movie like american girl. viewers get tired of stereotype movies, i dont want her viewers to get drained seeing her naked, serious or struggling one movie after the other.

Just b/c Kristen is telling the press she doesn't know what she's doing next doesn't mean she doesn't have projects lined up.

As for the type of film she does I'm going to have to disagree that she should move away from the track she's on. I think of any of the main stars of Twi she has made the most interesting and courageous decisions. If anything she has refused to be typecast as just another 20 yr old. It would be so easy to be the girl in a Nicolas Sparks movie by that isn't who she is.

I love that she's using her major Twi star power to get great little movies off the ground. I hope she does that for the rest of her career.

no one is debating against her film choices. the material is always good and she believes in it. but its also doesnt hurt to try other things, which doesn't necessarily mean doing a Nicolas Sparks movie..like duh?! coz she's been playing a lot of tortured characters lately. its also good to see her in other roles that can showcase her other talents.

and don't worry, no one here thinks that she doesn't have movies lined up for her. there maybe tons of scripts thrown at her desk everyday ;)

Anon 8:13 - I totally agree with you.

Well it would obviously be good for both Kristen and Rob to vary their film choices. Rob too is in danger of being a "stereotyped" All 3 non twi movies he has done have been a man of varying level of brooding that gets women. But they are at the beginning of their careers and learning.

I'm excited to see what's next.

I agree with anon 20:13 too! good grief!

I also think that Kris needs to change and try a little lighter characters she often plays characters fairly sexually marked with a large share of shadow

Like what? People keep saying something different, light, but than leave it at that.

Also not every actor wants to work in every genre. I don't remember the last comedy Leonardo Dicaprio did & people haven't gotten sick of him yet.
