Most of what we cover is relatively harmless. Who’s dating whom, who’s been cast in what, what did a tabloid pull out of its you-know-where… keeping the celebrity news media honest is usually light business.
This is not one of those stories.
According to TMZ, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were driving home from LAX airport in Los Angeles when they noticed paparazzi on their tail, “weaving through traffic.” Sources say the pair stopped into a police station to ask for help, and cops, fortunately, were able to shepherd them safely back on to the road.
Pattinson and Stewart finished their trip without further incident. That’s the happy ending to a disturbing story.
But part of what makes it so frightening is that it now seems almost ordinary. Pattinson himself has been pursued on the road before, he and Stewart have had photo bounties placed on them by reckless outlets, and paps have often turned their film shoots into spectacle.
They’ve handled the circus responsibly, as do most of the celebrities subjected to an escalating paparazzi culture driven toward greater and greater immediacy. But luck and alertness go only so far.
At some point, someone — Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Brad Pitt, Britney Spears, someone — will not see the weaving paparazzi until the terrible moment when the star, the photographer, or the mom whose minivan happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time gets hurt.

at least the cops helped them out this time.they are trying to protect the house they have i think,because the same thing happened in malibu with Rob,if it was just a hotel they were going to they would not have bothered i think.

Thank god the cops were able to do something this time.The crazy paps situtation just seems to be getting out of control.Luckily Rob and Kristen didn't get hurt and were able to sneak away.
Glad the police was able to help and sneak them out the papz! Ulgh - hate the papz! Makes me think of what happened to Princess Di in the tunnel. So happy that R & K were able to be safe and off on their merry way!

Gov. Schwarzenegger signed into law an Anti-Paparazzi Law in October 2009 and it went into effect January 2010. Whether this story is true or not, we've seen how the papz treat them and at some point the law would certainly apply. It's awful they get treated better across the boarder (or across the pond)than they do here at home (yes, I know Rob's from London, but you get my point). Something needs to be done before someone gets hurt.
i agree Ellen something has to be done.some celebs just pose for a photo in front of the paps in the hope that they let them go.but R&k just do not want to that,they have their reasons.but the more they move against the current the more they are going to be hounded i am afraid.ultimately there is always a price to pay whichever way they decide to handle this.

Hey Arnold! You used to be an actor, how about a real law that keeps celebrities from being victims? How about something simple: pictures at premieres, red carpet events and when they are working are okay. Pictures from any aspect of their private life are not. The photographer needs a signed release from the celeb for any of those.

i can't believe they allow all these paps to freely invade celebrities' privacy in USA. i've never seen such horrendous acts of photographers anywhere in the world. i can understand if they are being photographed while working because its part of the job. but outside work, they should let them live normal lives and be treated as regular citizens. robert and kristen just happened to be two young aspiring actors who got lucky in both their careers and lovelife that's it. i think there are so many insecure people around them who wants a piece of their fame.

It's stalking, pure and simple, and that is against the law. Celebrities should be allowed to slap restraining orders or cease and desist orders on these paps who apparently have no conscience or regard for the safety of the celebrity or bystanders. While I will admit to silent "squeeing" when the kiss photos hit the net, I was ashamed of myself at the same time, because that was a private moment meant for the two of them, and they don't owe us those kinds of pictures, or pictures of their house, or pictures of anything they do off the job, etc. There should be a line that should not be crossed, and it needs to be drawn before someone is horribly injured or killed. We need to do what we can to not support the rags that pursue these pics, so that maybe the demand will die down a little.
Amen Anon. 2:02! You would think Gov. Swartzenagger would understand, as he was in the limelight in the 80s/90s. He should get on it and put into effect a REAL anti-pap law that actually does something! The celebs who are not fame whores should all get a petition started, take it to the state capital and get it signed themselves. It seems that's the only way that something can be done. Also, can't Rob and Kristen go to court and get a restraining order barring paps from taking pics of their home or coming within so many feet of their personal space? Jennifer Garner told the paps that if they took any pics of her daughter, Violet, while she was arrivng at school, on school grounds or leaving school, that she would sue them. So far it's working.

i don't know but i feel a lot better now that im not seeing any pictures of them on the net. i hope nothing will surface in the next few days. they should continue hiding or doing whatever they do to not be seen. it seems to be working. im so happy for this couple, ive never been happy for any couple i dont know or havent met personally before... but robsten is an exception. its sad if the media breaks them down. but i think they are stronger than ever coz when you've been through a lot together, its not very easy to break the bond. We have freedom of the press in this country. When anyone is in a public place it is not illegal to take their photograph. They're in public.
If they break another law in pursuit of that photograph, ie, wreckless driving, stalking, etc., then that's a different story.
The anti-paparazzi law that Schwarzengger signed just makes it easier to sue media outlets for PUBLISHING photographs taken illegally, ie, photos taken through a person's window while they are in their home, backyard, etc. It doesn't say anything about photos taken in a public place.
Like all of you, I think something needs to be done about this stalkarazzi. It's not right and should be illegal to harass celebrities. When Robert Pattinson was being followed by those photographers a few weeks ago, I felt sick to my stomach. They were literally holding his privacy hostage by refusing to let him go home without being followed. If that isn't against the law, it damn well should be.

If they don't get harrassed in Europe and the UK, then what in the Hell is wrong with these idiots in power in the USA??? Sorry, but I don't get the harrassment law as it applies to young movie celebrities. They don't get any protection from these snakes. They're lower than the maggots that feed on rotting flesh. Why are they allowed to harrass and harrass these young people without any mercy or consequence for their actions. I just don't get it!!! The law can put innocent people in prison but can't do anything about the idiots that put other people in jeopardy??? What's wrong with this pictue????
