MoodieReport Coty Prestige has unveiled the new feminine fragrance from the house of Balenciaga. Florabotanica, which is fronted by actress Kristen Stewart, will be available in travel retail worldwide from October.

The edp scent is said to combine the fantastical and ultra-contemporary aspects of the Balenciaga brand. “There is a real duality in Balenciaga, between classicism and experimentation,” noted Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière. “For this new fragrance, I wanted to explore this paradox between the pure and the enigmatic further. A few years ago, I designed this ‘floral collection’. The dresses were covered with flowers, but these flowers were neither charming nor romantic. They structured the whole silhouette. I wanted the flowers in this perfume to express the same idea.”

(...) The fragrance face is actress Kristen Stewart, best known for her role in the blockbuster Twilight saga. Balanciaga chose her for her tetchy youthfulness and rebellious femininity.

“Kristen Stewart has a real personality,” noted Ghesquière. “She captivated me when we met a few years ago. I had not forgotten her. She is the perfect embodiment of a certain idea of Balenciaga: that beauty that is both pure and uncontrollable. We met again for Florabotanica. She is totally this graceful and mysterious figure that symbolises this strange botanical garden.”

The fragrance flacon features graphic black and white stripes, as favoured by Cristóbal Balenciaga. An oversized tube plunges into the middle of the bottle in the style of a laboratory test tube. Read in full

 GraziaUK: Cannes is delivering some spectacular gowns this week, if you could dress any star for a red carpet number who would it be, if it could be past or present?

Phillip Lim: I’d say I love to dress anyone who is really authentic in their style. You can tell when someone really loves what they are wearing or when they have just been put in something. Alexa Chung for example is totally authentic in the way she dresses. We are friends away from fashion, and when I see her off camera she’s the same – she’s like nerdy and a tomboy. I love it that she can curse like a sailor but at the same time she so beautiful and charming and elegant – that is so inspiring because she’s so normal.

In fact I think normality might be the new edge – as it’s so shocking when people are so normal. These days it’s so easy to be shocking so it’s refreshing when you meet someone like Alexa. Kristen Stewart is another cool girl, she just does what she does, she’s a great actress, and always herself on the red carpet – that’s what I find inspiring. Women are inspiring to me – totally the stronger sex. Period!

Question: How closely did you collaborate with Charlize and Kristen on their costumes? 
Atwood: Initially, the first meeting I have with them, we talk about the character and I show them my ideas and listen to theirs. They were both very open to letting me do my thing. And then, as long as they could work in it, they were pretty amenable and excited by what they saw. Charlize has certainly been a model, but she’s also a great character actress on the inside, so her priorities were really character over beauty, and Kristen’s [were] as well. Kristen is a beautiful young woman, but she isn’t vain in the way that she’s looking at the mirror going “Oh, do I look fat in this?” With neither one of them, that was not where they were going with it. They were very into their character.

WWD Balenciaga will soon have its own place in the Twilight. The brand has signed actress Kristen Stewart as the face of the newest Balenciaga fragrance for women.

Stewart, best known for her role as Bella Swan in the blockbuster movie saga, will represent a to-be-announced scent which is expected to be launched this fall.

“Balenciaga has always stood out to me,” Stewart told WWD on Thursday. “Even when I first began to consider fashion and admittedly rarely knew the brand I was wearing, I always recognized and loved Balenciaga. It feels full circle to be involved with something that spoke to me then and of course continues to excite me now. The brand is just cool. That’s the way it is. I feel drawn to it. It provokes on a number of levels. It isn’t afraid or contrived. It hits a very cool balance, always. Always pretty undeniable.”

Balenciaga creative director Nicolas Ghesquière called Stewart the muse for the new scent. “Kristen embodies the modernity of the new Balenciaga fragrance with her unique sensibility and intelligence,” said Ghesquière. “From her early appearance in ‘Panic Room’ to her independent choice of ‘Welcome to the Rileys,’ I’ve always sensed her progressive character. In 2006, I invited her to appear in a project shot by Bruce Weber. Since then, I’ve always wished to collaborate with her further, knowing that she shares the radical spirit of Balenciaga.”

Added Isabelle Guichot, chief executive officer of Balenciaga: “Kristen is the perfect choice as she embodies Nicolas Ghesquière’s unique vision for the second chapter in our fragrance history.”

Charlotte Gainsbourg remains the face of Balenciaga Paris, the first scent from the house, which was launched in 2010.

“Kristen stood out as an evident choice for this new fragrance,” added Catherine Walsh, senior vice president of American fragrances for Coty Prestige, a division of Coty Inc. “She has a unique sense of style, quite original and chic in the way she mixes fashion elements. Her elegant modernity and innate rebel style perfectly match with the spirit of Balenciaga.”

Stewart noted that after a busy 2011, she’s taking a bit of time to relax. “My horizon is clear as of now (except for this!) in terms of new projects, which feels incredible,” she said. “I have finished three films I can’t wait to see come to fruition this year, ‘On The Road,’ ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ and ‘Breaking Dawn 2.’”

MTV Style The most critical element with this movie is, of course, the wedding (*spoiler alert* though, ed note: WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT TWICE ALREADY?), and this was misleading in the previews but there’s a dream sequence wedding and a real wedding. How did you delineate the two dresses from each other?
The script gave us a great opportunity to get inside Bella’s thoughts about the impending wedding. There’s a nightmare wedding and her perfect wedding. For the nightmare, we chose something that was a version of the dress that she would hate to wear. Something that’s uncomfortable and a dress Bella would be embarrassed in. It was stiff and had a boned bodice that showed a lot of bare skin which she’d be horrified by because she’s a bit of a tomboy.

There’s nothing very girly about her style so we had a huge, cumbersome, puffy skirt. We just tried to picture everything she’d find difficult to deal with and import that into a dress.

The real dress fit Bella like a second skin and I was really glad about how all that worked out. It reflects her simplicity and elegance. It’s not too girly, I thought it really hit the right note of having some vintage elements while working well for a modern woman.

That dress was stunning. I went to the midnight screening and it was an entire theater filled to the gills with girls sighing in unison. The lace panel in the back with hundreds of covered buttons, we all swooned.
That’s the great thing about Kristen, she has such an amazing physique so we thought the best thing to do was to show that. The dress really reveals curves and highlights each part of her shape but it’s all covered up and so we thought it was sexy but completely elegant.

VogueUK KRISTEN STEWART may have shortened his hemlines and altered his dresses, but London-based Marios Schwab is still thrilled to call her a fan. The Twilight star stepped out wearing his designs twice times over the past month; once at the Hand and Footprint ceremony and again at a Beverley Hills photocall.

"She embodies the spring/summer 2012 collection," Schwab told us at the Harvey Nichols press day yesterday. "Kristen is different to other wearers of the label - she is a dangerous girl, she changes her style according to the way she feels. But she is similar to others in the way that she doesn't wear clothes based on trends, but on her personality. I want my designs to look striking but not too exaggerated - I don't want them to overtake the wearer. I think you can see that with Kristen. She is a perfect femme fatale."

Although he is yet to watch both of the existing Twilight films, Schwab thoroughly enjoyed the first in the series of the saga - named simply Twilight.

"I watched it just once, but I was quite amazed by it," he said. "I loved all the energy and I've always been keen on that genre - you know action. I'm never that into trilogies - I like to see the story of a film all in one go. I'll have to wait for them all to come out and then watch them in one go."

Updated Sunday September 18, 11.20am: Kate Moss and Twilight's Kristen Stewart made for quite the starry front row this morning at Mulberry - where all the fun of Brighton Pier was brought to life with balloon animals, ice cream and fizzy pop.
On the catwalk it was all rain macs in bright yellow and big Brigitte Bardot hair. "I loved the yellow, it's actually my favourite colour," Stewart told us backstage after the show, confessing that going to shows isn't something she'd usually do. Robert Pattinson dresses properly. He’s more adept than I was. But I don’t know. I don’t think there’s been one specific person other than Sinatra who has influenced my style.
