Exclusive Interview: Waxing NEW MOON with Oscar-nominated composer Alexandre Desplat.

Here are excerpts of the interview,
Did you listen to Carter Burwell’s score for the first Twilight film when you accepted New Moon?
No, not only did I not listen to it, but I didn’t even watch the movie. I didn’t want to be influenced by it. Carter is a great composer and I loved his scores for the Coen Brothers. And I knew that if I went there, I would be in danger, because I knew that I would enjoy it and then be influenced by it. So I just passed and avoided it altogether.

I loved that even the tenderest moments in the score have a sense of danger and uneasiness, like each turn plunges you deeper into the unknown. Even the track “Marry Me, Bella” has a great sense of apprehension to it.
Yes, definitely. There are many moments in the film where you have to feel unsettled emotions. She has to choose between two men and doesn’t know how to make the choice. I actually used that element to blur the two love themes – the one for Edward and the one for Jacob. But they are of the same vein, so as you are watching and listening, are you hearing Edward’s or Jacob’s? I love to put these subliminal tricks into the score just for the fun of it.

It's a shame John Hughes didn't live to hear the New Moon soundtrack — it's a Pretty in Pink for our vampire-crazed times. Indeed, if Hughes were making a Breakfast Club 2010, Molly Ringwald's detention buddies would have to include a vampire, a zombie, a werewolf and whatever Judd Nelson was. As any goth girl can tell you, undead dudes are way cooler than the flesh-and-blood kind.

The genius of the Twilight saga is the way it celebrates the passion of the all-American fang hag, with Robert Pattinson as the perfect plasma-slurping pinup boy: He's hot, he's sexy, and he's undead. So New Moon is a movie soundtrack, but it's also a concept album about the bond between teenage girls and their imaginary bloodsucker boyfriends.

As a movie, New Moon isn't too far from Pretty in Pink — except now Duckie's a werewolf. So it's fitting that the soundtrack is up to that same standard of excellence, piling on the New Wave melodrama. Where the original Twilight soundtrack went for rock bombast, as in Paramore's hit "Decode," this year's model is hushed and atmospheric.

MUSE Would Like To Have Rob's Girl Problems.

Muse has already graced two "Twilight" soundtracks and is likely gearing up to rock the "Eclipse" one as well. So, now that they've expanded their already massive fan base to the "Twilight" community, are they finding that the ladies are as hungry to get a bite out of them as they are R-Pattz?

Drummer Dominic Howard told MTV News the answer is a big no, but he would love it if girls started to follow him in massive droves. "I don't know who [the Robert Pattinson of Muse] would be," he joked. "[But] I wouldn't mind, you know, having the same amount of ladies like to chase me around."

He knows it might be hard at times to be that popular with the ladies, but it's a chance he's willing to take. We’re betting it's a risk most guys would tackle. "I'll take on that responsibility. You got like a whole train full of ladies that follow him around wherever he goes," Dominic said. "So I wouldn't mind taking on that, but I wouldn't say that any of us are trying to compete with his vibe with the ladies."

The Post Twilight Acting Future of Robert Pattinson

Given the New Moon star's recent Seventeen quotes, it's interesting to wonder how Robert Pattinson will feel with two more years of Twilight Saga hype left in the tank. Both the Twilight typecasting issue and the sustainability of the Twilight Saga hype are still up in the air. If the heavy Twilight attention is at the root of how Robert Pattinson feels about his acting future, can you really blame him for not knowing how long he wants to be an actor? If the Twilight Saga hype continues in the same frenzied manner, who wouldn't want to at least take a break to think about the future? Read more here

Honestly, I do not know how I was able to recover after the RobSten world was shaken to the core, when surge of outtakes from the Vanity Fair (including the kissy pic) flooded my senses. My friend, Gen, who tipped me, and I were jumping up and down with excitement! I could literally feel my heart pounding and I couldn't type to do the post. I have never been this excited since I started this blog. It was like when I saw the KOL concert pics. No explanations needed on that one.

After I saw those KOL photos I already decided I have got to start blogging about my love for Rob, Kristen and Twilight, hence the birth of RobStenation.

Anyways, since I am still getting a grip of things. Let me just share with you a very important deal. Mark Morton of The Examiner.com sent the TwiUniverse, including this blog his analysis and review of the most awaited soundtrack of the year. Here goes;

"New Moon is less a compilation of potential hit singles and more a conceptual album, though comprising 15 artists, bound thematically by mood, atmosphere, and attentive delivery. Here is a track-by-track analysis of the entire album:

1. Death Cab for Cutie - Meet Me on the Equinox
Upon an initial listen, the vocal tone has a retro, late 60s/early 70s vibe, like a cross between The Animals, The Kinks, and The Doors. The song is a good, moody, driving ditty. It has a bit of a Your Vegas structure to it, as well, because it has a bit of an upbeat tempo, but the message in the song fits in with the morose tone of the movie. The music has some great contrasting elements, because it consistently shifts between a gentle sob and a mournful scream. It ends very poignantly and abruptly, as if to say, “That’s it. Deal with it.”

5. The Killers - A White Demon Love Song
There are several things going on in this song right from the opening - a tickling synthesizer, very light and breezy guitars, and vocal melody with a classic Beatles sound to it, like a cross between Sgt. Pepper’s and Magical Mystery Tour. However, the song lulls along almost drunkenly, but as the volume increases, it takes on a bit of a David Bowie persona. From there it becomes extremely dense in mood.

6. Anya Marina - Satellite Heart
Marina kicks in with an embittered-sounding acoustic guitar and near-whispering vocals. It is another song that invokes confusion and frustration. It is interesting to hear a largely acoustic song to take on this role. “Satellite Heart” is accented with synthesized orchestration – adding a touch of listenable contentment to the track. I see this as a follow-up or escalation of the Lykke Li track, enhancing the lost innocence persona, like she’s resolved to the fact that whatever has happened has happened and there is no going back. "

As you may have heard, a media statement was released earlier today stating that the New Moon soundtrack street date has been bumped up to this Friday, October 16. This means that for you folks playing the home game, Walmart should technically be selling it at midnight Thursday night. The queue starts to the left.

UPDATE! New Moon Soundtrack
This has just been posted on the official Twilight Saga Twitter:

"Due to overwhelming demand, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON soundtrack is being released this Friday!"
So apparently its now being released on Friday 16th instead of the 20th. No word on if this is across all countries or just in the US etc but hopefully we'll hear more on it soon...either way it means we'll get our Twilight tunes a little sooner

The cover art for The Twilight Saga: New Moon: The Score has just been seen on Amazon, the place which you found out in September was pre-selling the album (to be released on November 24th). As you know, the score is being composed by Alexandre Desplat – recent recipient of a Hollywood Award.

Twilight’s score was composed by Carter Burwell, whose music will still be a part of The Twilight Saga: New Moon as well. Desplat’s piece, “The Meadow,” is also going to be appearing on the official soundtrack for the film, and a few seconds of that song were previewed on the UK’s Amazon page.

The response to that particularly piece was overwhelmingly positive, so it seems inevitable that the New Moon score will be captivating as well. Examiner.com

Are you liking the idea that RobSten are inseparable and are sort of a package deal? And with that I do not mind if they are not attending the show.

We’re aware of how thirsty Twilight fans are for the upcoming release of the film, New Moon, but now it seems music fans may be … hungrier. If you’re both a lover of indie music and of Stephenie Meyer’s four-part teenage vampire saga, then you must be positively aching for the impending release of the movie’s soundtrack, on October 20.

When Atlantic Records released the New Moon soundtrack listing on September 22, indie kids were both shocked and delighted to see many of their favorites contributing new, exclusive material. Big name, arena-filling artists like Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Washington darlings Death Cab for Cutie are on the roster, but so are smaller acts such as Sea Wolf, OK Go, Bon Iver, and St. Vincent, who are staples of the club circuit.

We spoke to three of the bands on the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack about their song contributions, moody lyrics, and whether they’re Team Edward or Team Jacob.

MTV gives a sneak peak on the behind the scenes of the making of the video of Death Cab for Cutie's "Meet Me on the Equinox". This is looooooong over due. For Forks' sake, when will it debut?

On the inspiration behind "Shooting The Moon" on the New Moon soundtrack:

"The song is about an astronaut involved in a conspiracy. I am not personally a doubter re: the US moon landing, but the story fascinates me. The story, that is, that would be, were the conspiracy theory true. One of the most iconic heros of all time would have to live with the guilt. He'd have to keep such a heavy, terrible secret: that this huge historical watershed was a cynical lie. As the basis of a song, it let me get at a feeling that I otherwise have a hard time describing, the feeling of dread and conviction at the same time. Of wanting to say it's going to be OK, when in fact it probably isn't. It's a feeling I have a lot. The hero knows the only way to make things better in the long run is to unleash this awful truth which is going to break everyone's heart."

On whether or not they created the song specifically for the New Moon soundtrack:

"It was recorded along with the songs on our new album, but it was a perfect fit for New Moon. Our record's already nearly an hour long, so we could afford it let this one go on to greener pastures. Which is no euphemism. The song is in such great company on this soundtrack that it's probably happier in its new home."

On the one OK Go song they'd play to "set the mood" for Bella and Edward:

"Hmm. I'm gonna give a few answers. Sorta depends on their mood. They're both earnest types, so perhaps the super-honest love song is the way to go. There's one on our new album called Last Leaf, in which I tell the woman I love that I will wait for her forever, which, sentiment-wise, seems pretty on-the-nose for B&E. But whether it'd get them feeling randy, I don't know. There's a dancier love song called "I Want You So Bad I Can't Breathe," and again, bingo, right? Or do vampires breathe? To me, the sexiest song on the record is this one that we've already released online called "Skyscrapers." But I have sorta different parameters for sexy than most folks; it's probably only advisable as an aphrodisiac for the slow-jam inclined." Celebuzz

The New Moon Soundtrack is a big deal for me, because I need to know if it would be at par to the Twilight Soundtrack. And the more I am intrigued with all the new bands that are now involved in this year's most anticipated sequel. Ok Go!'s Here It Goes Again made me remember how this band captured our hearts with their crazy video. I def can't wait for the release of the NM soundtrack, I am pretty sure it will not disappoint.
