'On the Road' Set Pictures. Kentwood and Hammond in Louisiana. Sam Bradley FAnpic

Main Street in Kentwood had a blast from the past as cars from the 1940's era were brought in by a production crew for the filming of a scene for an upcoming movie. Although crews on site would not confirm, a representative from SPAD films told Kentwood Rotary members at a meeting last month that the company would be filming "On the Road." The movie is being based on a novel by Jack Kerouac. The cast of the movie reportedly includes Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund, Tom Sturridge, Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams, and Viggo Mortensen. As the set was closed to the public, it is uncertain which cast members were actually in Kentwood for filming. Hammond and Amite are also locations for the film which is expected to be shot here throughout the coming week.

Northeast Central Avenue in downtown Amite was closed to traffic and pedestrians early Tuesday, as the area transformed into a film set for producer Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of “On the Road” by novelist Jack Kerouac.

Roseland resident Jimmy Rhodus watched from the sidelines near the railroad tracks as crews quickly loaded equipment for the next scene. “I’ve watched a lot of movies, but I’ve never seen one filmed before until today,” said Rhodus. “They’re quick!”

Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabona said the crews didn’t stay for very long. “But everything went smoothly. We had a beautiful day working with them,” he said.

Filming took place just outside the train station, while several Amite officers were also on hand to secure the area and steady the flow of traffic during the morning rush.

Sorry, no pictures of the cast. This development in filming coincides with lots of Rob and Kristen sightings in the area and rumors... among them that Rob's nova is being used in the film. lol at that one.
