Video: Jake Scott Talks about WTTR and Kristen + Why There is No Pole Dancing for Mallory
When we were in Sundance Kristen just kept getting mobbed! It must be very difficult. Especially since she's like a little punk rocker.

Jake talks to BostonGlobe - Talks about Why He Did Not Include the Pole Dancing Act Itself.
“I came to it as a father,’’ says Scott, who, with his wife, Rhea, has four children ranging from 5 to 16 years old. “I was fascinated by the idea that these conservative Midwestern people are contending with something that’s impossible to imagine. And they go on this journey to this place that is completely opposite to their world and connect with someone who is so horribly damaged.’’
On why he drew away from showing the pole dancing scene:
While filming the movie, Scott was concerned about exploiting Stewart’s character by including gratuitously sexy scenes of her in the strip club. There was, he says, pressure to depict her pole dancing, but he adamantly refused. “It was very hard to explain to them — I understand why they wanted it — Kristen Stewart, who’s got a bum like an apricot swirling around on a pole,’’ he says. “I thought it would destroy the character and disrespect people who have lost children. It would be an immoral act.’’
Jake Scott's Interview with ComingSoon.Net for WTTR. Mentions Kristen
Scott: Again, it's a similar thing. Inevitably, small dramas have a tough time now and the financiers and potential financiers are always wanting you to cast Richard Gere or George Clooney, know what I mean? You always have the battles over casting stars, and that I found really frustrating, and luckily, the financiers we ended up with didn't see it that way. They really trusted my judgment in casting, 'cause to me, those characters had to feel real and authentic and if you started casting... I don't want to mention other names, but there are some fantastic, very fine actors out there who aren't necessarily "People Magazine" famous, and Jim (Gandolfini) to me... what blew me away was that Jim wasn't considered to be a major catch.
CS: And he is actually.
Scott: And he's an incredible actor, and Melissa had just done "Frozen River" so that really helped, and Kristen wasn't known for "Twilight" then. That hadn't happened yet. She had just finished shooting before she came onto our film, so we didn't know that "Twilight" was going to be this major success, so Kristen was, at that time, not a big star, so it was an interesting but very frustrating process to get the film financed but we ended up with the right people who believed totally in what we were doing, and we were all making the same film.
CS: Did one of the three actors get attached earlier than the others?
Scott: Jim and Kristen got attached pretty early, and Jim was 18 months before we started production.
Jake Scott Talks to MTV About Kristen at the WTTR Screening
MTV Director Jake Scott has used phrases like "emotionally naked" and "got dirty" to describe Kristen Stewart's performance in the film. The 20-year-old actress plays a broken young woman thrust into a life of stripping in a seedy club and selling her body in fetid motel rooms.
At the film's red-carpet premiere in Tribeca on Monday night, Scott continued to hit on those same themes of unvarnished emotionality, comparing KStew to one of the most critically lauded and emotionally expressive actresses in Hollywood.
"That's like Meryl Streep stuff, you know?" he told MTV News.
He was speaking specifically about how Stewart took on such a demanding role at such a young age — and how she delivered such a top-notch performance. "I know that she put a lot of herself into that role," he said. "She was exposing herself emotionally. In order to do that, you have to put yourself there. It was an act of courage on her part, especially considering she was only 18."
Stewart's co-star, Melissa Leo, agreed, telling us how she and James Gandolfini watched in awe as KStew blossomed on the "Rileys" set. "I met Kristen at a very special time," she said. "She had just done 'Twilight.' She had been acting for a while. She has always carefully chosen her roles. Playing the character, she was acting for the first time as an emancipated actor. It was a treat for James and I to watch her spread her wings."
That's exactly what Scott was watching on the red carpet Monday, as Stewart strode confidently from interview to interview. "She's grown up," he said. "She's a woman now. She was a girl when I first met her. I've now known her probably three years. She's just becoming this wonderful woman."
